There is a god Barry's gone!!!
How are we sorted for this rule for the Champions League. We need 8 home grown players. So taking out of the squad because they could be going or gone are Ned , SWP and Weiss. Also add into the mix Bellers and Bridge.
What is left that we trained our selfs are Hart , Richards and Boyata. But how many do we need from our own youth set up? On top of that is Lescott , Milner , Barry , A Johnson and Taylor the keeper and by that we will just get to the 8 home grown players from the normal squad. I am exculding all of the young reserves as I cant see many of them being named in the 25 man squad.
This might not be a problem for us this season but in coming seasons we may find it a bit harder to get that number and knowing UEFA they will more than likely change the rule to 10 players in a squad in the coming seasons making it that little bit harder for some clubs.

Here are my squad (presuming Nasri joins and Tevez and SWP stay) ...
GK (3): Hart, Patilimon, Taylor
CB (4): Kompany, Lescott, Kolo, Savic
FB (4): Richards, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Clichy
DM (1): DeJong
CM (3): Yaya, Milner, Barry
AM (4): Silva, Nasri, SWP, Johnson
FW (2): Aguero, Balotelli
ST (2): Dzeko, Tevez

23 total (3 academy products, 6 home grown, 14 foreign grown)
So we can add 1 more academy (Boyata or Guidetti) and 1 more foreigner.

I hope Tevez and SWP stay but if they go we need another signing plus a promotion for one of the kids (unless we are planning on bringing back a former graduate like Etuhu or Sturidge :-) )

I don't think Joe Hart counts as club trained does he? He was already 19 when we signed him which means he has not been club trained for 3 years before his 21st birthday.

Ic that is the case then we can't sign anyone else cos the 2 remaining places go to academy graduates. If SWP goes we need 3 kids.

If Tevez goes we can get another in but I'd prefer to keep him .... It's a long season ahead.

U-21 academy products don't need to be declared in the 25-man "A" list for UEFA competitions, they can all go into the "B" list and are still fully eligible to play. So there is no need to declare Boyata or Guidetti or any others in the main squad, we can just leave it one or two short of the 25.

I thought for CL you needed 4 academy (e.g. Richards and SWP) and 4 association (home grown) players in the squad of 25. That's not the case???

You saying we only need 8 association/homegrown? In that case we are well covered but I'm surprised. I thought this was only true for the Premiership.

No, it is as you said but the U-21 academy players can be left in the B list and a 22 or 23 man A list named.

I think Hart will count as locally trained (as he signed at 19 so registered for three seasons including till the end of the one where he turned 21) along with Richards
with SWP look set to leave so as it currently stands removing SWP we would name a 23 man squad max instead of 25

Currently:

GK (3): Hart, Patilimon, Taylor
CB (3): Kompany, Lescott, Kolo, Savic
FB (4): Richards, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Clichy
DM (1): DeJong
CM (3): Yaya, Milner, Barry
AM (2): Silva, Johnson
ST (3): Aguero, Dzeko, Tevez, Balotelli

21 total 8 locally trained players consisting of: (2 club trained players, 6 association trained players)
with 13 foreign players

So two spaces open for new signings of any nationality![/b]

Pretty much the same as the Premier League and we're sorted for that so we'll be fine.

The addition of the club trained element for the champions league currently makes a difference for us as it takes up four of the eight homegrown squad places

We have 8 homegrown players but only two club trained Hart and Richards if SWP leaves so:

25 Man squad for premiership

Max 23 Man squad for champions league

Balotelli and Savic do need to be registered in the A list for the CL as they aren't academy players but not for the Premier League squad, confusing and rather silly but thems the rules.

No it's not. The Premier League doesn't require you to have CLUB TRAINED homegrown players whereas the Champions League does.

Yep your right didn't read the whole condition oops, ill edit it so its right!

So basically two spaces spare currently with one space possibly going to Nasri if the deal goes through

So we could well name a 'full' Champions League squad of the 23 which were allowed but only name 21 out of 25 allowed in the Premier league squad since Savic and Balotelli dont need to be named and no club trained restrictions leaving four places free!

You are close, but Micah Richards, Vladimir Weiss, Onuoha and Shaun Wright-Phillips are the only over-21 players at City who meet the UEFA requirements on club-trained players, in that they all spent at least three years with the Blues between the ages of 15 and 21.

Joe Hart counts as home grown, but not club trained as he hasn't had 3 full seasons with the club before his 21st birthday. The rules state that you can have a maximum of 17 foreign players + 4 Home grown + 4 club trained. You can field more than 4 home grown players or club trained players, but they come out of the maximum of 17 foreign players.

As it looks, the only club trained player we'll have available for the Champion's League is Micah Richards. So we would only have a maximum of 22 spots available for the A list. We have 7 homegrown players who will likely make the squad in Hart, Taylor, Clichy, Lescott, Barry, A Johnson and James Milner. That leaves only 15 spots for foregin players.

We have likely 11 definites in our current squad in Pantilimon, Kolarov, Kompany, K Toure, Zabaleta, DeJong, Silva, Y Toure, Dzeko, Aguero and Tevez.

That makes a senior squad of 19, so we actually have room for Nasri and 2 others in our CL squad. Although, we will likely field a smaller squad as is common. Chelsea's last year was 20 and if Arsenal don't bring in any new senior recruits, they could possibly only file a UEFA roster of 15 senior players over 21.
