a poster mentioned this the other day and i think its the way forward to kick start the quality of international football within the uk,maybe bring the republic in aswell and make it 5 teams. its things like this the fans miss, anyone know why they stopped them?

FA is probably afraid the other home nations would beat and embarrass us... and they could, especially Rep of Ireland, who are a useful team and were unlucky not to be in the World Cup.

England couldn't be arsed with it anymore as the FA thought it was beneath them. That's my recollection anyway. I was only a kid at the time, mind.

Without wishing to offend our Celtic brothers, I don't see how playing against N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Republic is going to improve the standard of our international football. We all play the same shit style of kick-and-rush, pace-and-power football with lots of bluster, very little skill and technique and zero focus on retaining possession.

In fact, having thought about the idea over the last few days, I think it would have the opposite effect and promote that style of shit football even more cos we'd probably win it and decide it's clearly the way forward.

An annual spanking off the likes of Germany, Spain and Holland would be much more useful. At least then our players might eventually figure out how international football should really be played.

it was scrapped because of attendances to the best of my knowledge
well, always a full house with england scotland whatever ground it was at,wales i think was played at ninian park that was allways sold out and was it lansdown road for ireland again sold out,the only games that would fall short would be ireland and wales at wembley

i heard many years ago it was the trouble between england and scotland fans

They were a great part of my youth, still remember jumping around the Bob Bank at Ninian Park when Trevor Francis scored the winner against Wales in 1982, quite surprised i got out alive.

Should make a mini tourney for end of season that lasts 4 days or sumat. Each year the a different country hosts it.
