Just saw this:
Religion is so messed up. You can be openly homophobic if you want as long as you hide behind “religious reasons”.
The answer, perhaps unintentionally, is in your response.Maybe it's because there are some guys on the team who refuse to do perform a simple gesture like wear a rainbow armband and a bunch of fans who apparently "believe" being gay is morally wrong, e.g. this thread.
Freedom to be oneself should be universal, no?Not really the same thing but thanks for the input
Respecting those who gave their life’s for your freedoms should be respected by all, No?Freedom to be oneself should be universal, no?
I work with a large number of members of the gay community
Donald Trump thinks veterans are "suckers and losers" and he's the putative leader of the free world.Respecting those who gave their life’s for your freedoms should be respected by all, No?
Anyway that’s for another thread ….

You're so close.Instead of these empty gestures I think we should be questioning why , as we approach the year 2025, there are still next to no openly gay footballers. We should be questioning why they are afraid to be open about their sexuality. That is the scandal here and not someone refusing to wear an armband
I feel the same way about those who talk about owning handguns. That’s what it is…performative virtue signaling.
My group of mates is very 00s ‘lad culture’, un-PC. Yet if one of our mates came out gay, I don’t think any of us would bat an eyelid. What someone likes sexually has nowt to do with anyone else. Unless the lad he was shagging was a fat ugly ****, then we’d then take the piss out of him for having shit taste in men like we would any of the lads who shag a female fifteen-pinter.The answer, perhaps unintentionally, is in your response.
“Perform”
That’s what it is…performative virtue signaling.
I could not care less what someone does in the privacy of their own bedroom or home or car or wherever they choose to express their love. However, forced, performative shows of “support” look, feel, and are strained beyond belief.
I work with a large number of members of the gay community. Doesn’t bother me a bit until it’s so “in your face” that it feels performative and purposely in your face. But, I also fully embrace the freedom to be oneself, within reason in the professional workplace.
As for the dressing room, I’d venture NO-ONE could care less, but the media scrutiny and non-stories that would come out of the woodwork are simply a sideshow that no-one craves.
Sadly, the “lad culture” that follows the men’s game is the problem. Indeed, one is often surprised when a professional female footballer marries a guy instead of another girl…yet no-one seems to care about lesbian footballers!
It’s not being gay that is the problem, it’s “real men’s” attitude towards it! That only serves to pollute the freedom to which we should all aspire for everyone.
Kind of odd given the number of fans who are so pissed they can't walk and there to hurl abuse at the shite performance of their stars, and the players who are there to get paid.Fans and players are there for the football, nothing more nothing less.
Well, yes, there is that. Sometimes the match gets in the way of the piss up!Kind of odd given the number of fans who are so pissed they can't walk and there to hurl abuse at the shite performance of their stars, and the players who are there to get paid.
Errr, did I attribute his views to anyone else or try to shame anyone? Most people have their own opinions, just because some famous people have weird views attributing those values to other people is stupid it's lazy and trying to shame people into thinking the way you think.
As for Trump, he's the president of the good ol' USofA.
Errr, did I attribute his views to anyone else or try to shame anyone?
Also he isn't President (and could keel over at any moment).
But, yeah -- good post, chief. Fucking rabbit ears.
What about in a lay-by on the B5159? Not for any particular reason or anything...I could not care less what someone does in the privacy of their own bedroom or home or car or wherever they choose to express their love.

Are you being deliberately stupid? I'm not sure the entire 1st team plus subs are expected to participate in those and there certainly would be no issue with anyone being absent. The rainbow laces/taking a knee bollocks is compelled performative nonsense.Absolutely -- shame on those players who visit sick kids in the hospital and volunteer at soup kitchens and give money to charity while team's PR department writes stories and snaps photos for the web page. Why aren't they training all the time?
