Day after Boxing Day 1976.
If anyone older than me has better information from this day I would love to here it.
I was 14 & went with my Uncle & his mate.
We were the first fans to use the new south stand that day ( replaced the cowshed)
I think this was the day we started taking serious thousands to most away games on a regular basis.
We queued for ages at both entrances but they locked the turnstiles as full.
Queued at the lowfields along with loads of other blues & again got locked out.
I didn’t know the significance at the time but we then did the same at the kop ( my uncle was a big bricklayer & didn’t give a toss ) but gave up half an hour after kick off when they locked that end as well.
The following year in the fa cup was a similar crowd with a similar number of blues there yet the next year again in the fa cup with massive city numbers the crowd was 10,000 less.
This was the pitch invasion one & the trip from & back to the train station still lives with me now.
Mickey Francis version of this days events in his book was absolutely bang on.
Yes Xmas 76 was at that one Kidd got both our goals, went with my mate his dad and sister managed to get seats behind goal at the top City fans stood at bottom. Also went in some old social club next to the ground before and after the game.Had a few words with a couple of Leeds fans during the game but it all calmed down, had to show some respect for my mates sister who was getting worried.

The Barnsley fa cup 4th round match around 1992 was tasty after the game, loads of aggro outside the North Stand

Yep . i remember that Barnsley game in 1996 .... they had loads of coaches parked alongside Platt Fields Park, on Platt Lane , and they were having a go at City fans walking back that way after the game , and those queueing in traffic in cars.

They also tried on with a couple of mates of mine and their dad, as they walked through an alleyway behind the Kippax ... knocking the dads City hat off his head and trying to goad them into retaliating.

And that night League Cup game back in 1981 their place wasn't much better either ... when Aylott scored with a great header to knock us out, and we took 9,000 fans to Oakwell ..... a 34,000 crowd, attended the game , and there was trouble on the way back to the station, and on the platforms!.

It had gone up to 20p Steve when I knew him.

He saved us from a hiding in Brum town Centre when outnumbered he scattered a load of them with a large bin above his head and his arse hanging out of his cords ,giving us enough time to get back to the Bull Ring for the train, although what seemed like the whole of the shopping centre also turned on us!
What a day for a 16yr old !
Was that the banana era, probably 1988?

Are you thinking of the Valenti brothers
probably them yes. im not a gortoner im next door reddish, but an old drinking pal of mine now deceased knew a few of the chaps from gorton and when they were talking about the old days they mentioned these italians more than once.

not maine road but anyway...blackpool away league cup 84/85. 7 of us went in my mates mini, after the game we ended up backstreets of blackpool in a boozer called the prince of wales. there was a mod disco on some blackpool scooter club. near the bar 30 or 40 moody looking lads and it turns out they were a coachload from the mauldeth in burnage. fuck me they looked like a pirates crew..sure enough mayhem ensued. blackpools finest turned up and nicked everyone who wasnt wearing a parka. 1st and only time ive spent time in the cells.
