Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

I was there and can certainly confirm that.

The matches back then had no segregation and were rarely all ticket. It was pay-at-the-gate and get there early if you wanted to be sure to get in.

I suspect that most of the time they would admit vastly more than they were supposed to do but record the attendance at around the licenced capacity.

Not that Peter Swales would ever have done that with City!
27000 at Newcastle including all over the covered Leazes End.

Stopped in Leeds for a piss up....what a day & night !!

That game’s been talked about at length on this thread. Maybe 10 or 20 pages back.
Rough ...very rough !!

The Rags got a hiding there in the early 2000s. Industrial fireworks were used initially as shock and awe tactics and then they got a battering.

I was never part of that scene but attending matches home and away with mates from starting work at 16 in 1970 I saw all sorts.
I know one of the main lads that was organising the rags that day, he was telling me that they shit themselves when the rockets came shooting at them they jus ran like fuck LOL

They brought thousands to Maine Road that night as I think a victory almost guaranteed them promotion as they were running away with the league.

People talk about the ICF and the likes but for me Chelsea were the top London firm in the late seventies and early eighties. They took it everywhere.
We had a firm and a half at the Full Members cup final but Chelsea were unreal, probably only United on a good day could pull that many lads.

Yes anybody who was around in those days knows you could be done absolutely anywhere in the most unexpected places. Even at home if you walked around the wrong corner and bumped into a little mob you could get a kicking.
You could never go away open minded always had to be on your toes, Brentford away fa cup we got beat 3-1 I think years ago that was a bad time for me and lads again Chelsea turned out, Swindon away in the car park outside the mainstand had it’s moments, Hull away first game of the season is another what goes under the radar, quite a few more aways where we’ve been surprised . Everton at main road have brought some mobs in their time, never forget what we took there though in 85 league cup ( I think) . Proper turn out .
