How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

And gets harder and harder for more and more people.
Oh well. Life goes on.
That is the sad thing. The thing that is clear to me is that we cannot go back. We need to sort out some of the things that got us where we are now. The EU have nothing to do with this. Our system has been broken for a long time and the reality is the EU were often blamed. The standard of living in Britain (despite the figures that are served up by the Conservatives) is falling due to multiple reasons, Gaining independence (not using the term Brexit any longer!) from the EU has created challenges. We definitely need to look at our relationships with other countries. The first priority for me is sorting our own shit out domestically. Change is needed. I hope a general election will sort some of the problems out or at least highlight the scale of issues. We live in a divided country that never truly levelled up and heavily favours the wealthy elites and big business. I accept that is important, but there are British people who really need support that have been forgotten about. We need a government that can deal with these things, not just kick issues down the road and make them somebody else's problem. Whatever happens in 2024 is about starting from the ground up. Unfortunately, people still focus on the 'B' word or how things were done and the mistakes of the past. Who really cares? We are the only ones who can get ourselves out of these current problems. It sounds cold, but nobody including the EI owe us anything.

Your excellent post has disappeared this is all that’s left *^^^
I’d just like to say we need to do both put right the wrongs in our own country and work towards rejoining the European Union at the same time
Wanting the U.K. to be a part of a trading and political block doesn’t mean people hate the country.

It seems wanting what‘s best for people isn’t patriotic these days as we don’t “believe in our country” enough.

It’s a nonsense. Isolating ourselves makes us poorer and weaker. It’s a global, international world these days. Trying to revert back to how things were isn’t possible, however much we try.

they are getting rid of 3000 jobs directly - more will go in the supply chain and more will go in other business that depend on those 3k workers to spend with them.

The restructured plant will produce weaker inferior steel and as some companies will still need the so called virgin steel they will have to import it. So - if like other imports that means steel is more costly and imports are delayed it affects their production they could move production nearer to the point of steel making meaning more UK jobs could go. The stuff that is imported still will add an imbalance to our economy and we of course lose the value of any steel exports that could be made. On and Badenoch and Sunak think that paying half a billion pounds towards all that is money well spent.

All the type of stuff that was predicted pre-referendum but dismissed by those who put hatred of foreigners whilst holding a belief that UK life was better in the 1970's over doing the right thing for the country they professed to love

there goes our ability to manufacture tanks and ships if needed in the event of war ….
