How do you assess our transfer business?

And he's been saying it for 2 seasons now.

Why has nothing been done about it? No point getting the whole structure of the club in place to then entice the world's best manager then ignoring his advice on what team he needs.

It's clear the board want the CL but then don't stump up for the players of the quality required. The frustrating thing is it wouldn't need a huge number of new signings, just two or three top notch ones integrated into our already very good first team would give us a much better chance at winning the title and CL than scratching around for players below £50m. It's not like we're a low income club; those with less resources than us manage to sign £70m+ players. If that is what it takes to really improve then that's what we need to do, for the right player.

We've done well previously because we had players like Vinny, Merlin and Yaya, and Fern and Kun in their prime. Now we've lost that, squad fillers like Torres and Gundogan, Rodri, Cancelo, etc need better players around them. Haaland, Sancho, Koulibaly level players. Havertz, Thiago, Bale would all have been cracking signings. We didn't even bother. Seems like we fought UEFA for nothing. Very frustrating.

Nothing like positive thinking . We haven't even seen Torres play yet, but he is nothing but a " squad filler " ?

Ffs.

Spot on post mate

Losing Laporte last season was one of the main reasons why we found ourselves in so much trouble. We haven't properly addressed this even with Ake coming in. We have to get an elite CB before the season starts. Sorry for stating the obvious.

Losing Laporte only added to our poor transfer dealings last summer, once again we won the league and didn't really improve the squad. Losing Kompany and not replacing him was a far bigger issue last season, and then moving Fernandinho into defence weakened the midfield which didn't allow Rodri to settle.

Currently we have picked up Torres which I hope will make up for losing Sane, Ake will probably be the replacement for Otimendi when he leaves and cover at full back, which still leaves us in need of a Kompany replacement. Signing Koulibaly now looks unlikely, and with Sergio not being fit by now has to be a slight worry, we still need a centre half and a striker.

Exactly, fully agree.

I don’t know think we will get either tbh . Pep has even said we might go into the season with what we have .

Besides what you wrote about Torres I fully agree.

Either Pep truly is happy with the squad, Covid has messed with the club's finances or Pep is off next summer so they club will wait to overhaul the squad?

Trying to think of scenario's as it's baffling why obvious weaknesses in the squad still haven't been addressed.

I don’t get what difference it makes whether pep is only here for one more year to who we sign.

we are supposedly adopting this “holistic” approach.

notwithstanding that, even with traditional ideas about manager signing players,we should only be signing quality players suited to the league anyway.
