How do you assess our transfer business?

Can't really be too harsh as we have signed Ferran for the Sheikh's pocket change. Ake and holding unto Garcia are plusses. If we get Koulibaly then I'd say this is a great window. If we have gotten Messi then I would have creamed my pants. Barring the injury catastrophes of last season, I reckon we'd have a proper go at the title.

Simply put, our first choice back four still remains

Walker
Stones/Otamendi/Garcia/Fernandinho
Laporte
Mendy/Zinchenko/Cancelo

Not good enough. Need the deadwood out with KK and a left back in.

What about Ake?

Our back 4 is strengthened by his signing as he's a very good CB and can also cover LB. Guardiola also mentioned using him at DM. We can't really bring any more in until we have some takers for one or two of the others (preferably Garcia and Otamendi).

Started off pretty well, but looks like it is going to end pretty badly.

I would have expected the CB signing done by now. What makes me really scratch my head about the whole Koulibaly saga is... Txiki knew what Napoli were like... he knew what ADL was like... why have we fannied around for the past 3 months or so haggling over a fee? ADL is one of the most stubborn men in football, he won't back down.

We either pay that bit extra or we walk away, what are we waiting for? This whole thing about going through an intermediary strikes me that Txiki is a bit of a coward without a backbone. I don't care if they are on bad terms, face the music and speak to ADL directly, grow a set ffs. It all seems very weird to me.

The last 3 transfer windows in my opinion have been poor. We signed Mahrez in 18/19, we signed Angelino, Rodri and Cancelo in 19/20 and now we only have Ake and Torres. We had a real chance to stamp our authority in these windows and really break away from the rest of the premier league. I just feel as though Chelsea and Man Utd are getting closer and closer to us every season.

In that space of time, we have lost our most influential, commanding presence in the team Vincent Kompany, we have lost possibly our best ever player David Silva, we have lost one of our brightest young players Leroy Sane and Fernandinho and Aguero are ageing with the latter picking up a bad injury. Does Txiki understand how important Kompany and Silva were to our side and how much we will miss them? He needs to get his shit together and start getting serious. I just hope we don't f**k and fanny around with Aguero's replacement like we have done with Kompany's replacement or else we could be in trouble. If we start penny pinching for his replacement then we can kiss goodbye to getting close to ever winning a CL.

We should have treated this window a lot more seriously, this window should have been a mini-rebuild job. The squad needs completely freshening up and after the dreadful defeat to Lyon, i expected us to come out like wounded animals this transfer window to give Pep all the tools he needs to go for the CL this coming season.

Had we got Messi, i don't think anyone could have complained, but we haven't and we won't and we need to move on quickly in the market and start really addressing areas of concern.

This is why i don't think we will win the league this season. We are losing huge characters in the dressing room every other season and we aren't replacing them. Txiki really does need to start pulling his finger out because we are in a very serious transition period here. We have to make sure we get it right or this could set us back a few seasons.

I really, really hope we pull some great business off in these last 3 weeks or so. We desperately need to.

Exactly how I feel too. Completely agree with all those points. I just don't understand why we're not more aggressive in the transfer market, especially after winning that CAS appeal.

It was an ideal opportunity to rebuild, address the fact we don't have enough pace in the side and are shit at defending and attacking corners, and don't have anyone who can play like Fern used to.

Great post, sums up my feelings aswell.
I feel like the team is slowly but surely declining every season since that 100 pt year (even the following year while we won the domestic treble the team wasn't quite as good IMO) due to us losing major players and not replacing them well.

Another point I'd add is we had the highest average age of starting XI of all the top teams last year in the league. Meaning we won't see as much natural improvement in players as some of our rivals, especially United and Chelsea who have very young squads.

Some valid points made. Losing key players and trying to find replacements is very very tough ask. United,Arsenal and Chelsea are still finding that out. Liverpool’s recruitment over the last 3-4 years has been impressive. Before that they were crap.

Until Silva and Komps are replaced we may need to be realistic without spitting the dummy out.

We are in the middle of a rebuild and patience is needed not the constant blame game of city bingo.

Fans are getting twitchy as we have not gone through a rebuild of this size in recent times. We are trying to replace some of our greatest players. What’s the worse that can happen? We don’t win every game? We get slagged off in the media? Pep leaves?

City are a great club and we will get it right. Have a bit of faith in the team on and off the field.

Still a few weeks before the window closes. Let’s see what happens. I still expect Kk and Messi.

I think in order for this to be a good window we need to sort koulibaly out early this week and maybe sign aaour
I think aki and Torres are good signings but only replacing sane and Garcia
Think we need to be more solid and get off to a good start and playing with confidence. Definitely be up there in the league
Can’t see us conquering Europe as it stands
