If the performances aren't good enough I'll let them know about it, I held back a little on Saturday because I'm of the opinion the players are doing what Mancini has asked of them. It's hard to chastise the players for slowing the pace, playing keep ball, passing sideways and backwards etc when you get the distinct impression they've been asked to do exactly that by the manager.
For me there was one main reason we failed to beat Birmingham, and it was Mancini's tactics.
Mancini's 11 v Birmingham
Hart
Boateng
Toure
Kompany
Kolarov
Toure
de Jong
Silva
Johnson
Tevez
Milner
Tevez had plenty of support either side of him, the midfield also had Silva deployed in a free role, that is an attacking line up, how the hell did Mancini's tactics prevent us from winning the game?
Tevez didn't have plenty of support either side of him. I've no idea what game you watched but it doesn't look like it was the City v Birmingham game this weekend.
The lineup is an attacking one ONLY if the tactics employed allow it to be. Tevez, Johnson, Silva, Toure, Milner, all of those players have the ability to attack with pace, flair and drive. However they very rarely tried to do those things. If they'd tried and failed then you can lay the blame at the feet of the players, they were poor and underperformed. However they didn't try and fail, they failed to try, and that points the finger of blame directly at the manner in which they'd been directed to play. That's how Mancini's tactics prevented us from winning the game.
No doubt I'll now be bombarded with match stats regarding shots on target/off target etc as an indicator of our attacking prowess. I put no stock in the bare stats, taken out of context. We all witnessed the same display on Saturday, and it was turgid, slow and uninspiring regardless of how many times someone kicked the ball in the direct of the goal.
