How good was the Hacienda?

Konspiracy was a good night also, funny set up that place with rooms of corridors and you awlays came out of there ringing wet-but for me the thunderdome took some beating, proper hardcore music, kids skinning up on the bar,Jay Wearden on the decks etc.

Manchester at that time was mental and i must confess it took centre stage for me over City at that time.

Konspiracy used to be Pips with it's Roxy and Bowie rooms.

Went to Pips under the cathederal a few times as well as Rotters, Placemate 7 and others.Although I spent most time in Jilly's.

I used to love The Haç, I first went in '83 to see Spear of Destiny and also Big Country.
I started work next door to the club later that year and got free tickets to gigs - I went to see The Smiths there the night they appeared on TOTP with "This Charming Man". As I got to know a couple of people there I was on the guest list +5 guests, this lasted for 6-7 years.

Saw tonnes of gigs there, and although the sound wasn't great - there's nothing like a freebie to cushion the blow. Went to loads of bizarre nights in there, the weirdest probably seeing Dollar (introduced by Chris Quintin) - I've never witnessed such accurate bottle throwing since.

As Dids Dave said - the advent of acidhouse and E made the club pure heaven for a while. I was there throughout. I enjoyed the empty nights listening to industrial jazzfunk right up to the 'hands in the air' era where you couldn't move for people with eyes like dinner plates. T'was an extraordinary place. I loved it.

Surprised it took until page 3 for Konspiracy to get a mention to be honest?

It was Konspiracy and Hippodrome in Middleton for me, those were the days!

Konspiracy...what a wild place. Went there loads.

Manchester Vibes in the Area.

Proper down and dirty acid house. "Whizz, trips, Es".

I thought the closure of The Music Box was a particular blow for interesting music needing a home. Fuck Electro Pop on speakers piped in to a bar full of Lads in shirts.

Far far better than the Hac, as has been already said it was full of tourists which is akin to another shithole allegedly that resides in Manchester!

The Kippax 1 week and Music scene on away days for me-fantastic times atmosphere wise-if only these kids today could get in a time machine and go back to the late eighties and early nineties.Todays music scene is dogshit at best.

Konspiracy was a great night on a Friday, never went to Hippo's but I did like The Thunderdome.
I remember the day Trevor Morley scored at Bradford to get us promoted, after the match - a big piss up on the way back, we ended up in Albert Square for a big blue sing-a-long and then onto The Thunderdome and there was a lad dancing, off his tits with Morley's shirt on, complete with dirt and grass stains down the back.

It was the unique layout and set up that made it what it was along with the condensation dripping off the ceiling, smell of vicks and smiley faces in the corridors.

Had some good nights at the Hac but i thought "the state" in Liverpool was better

What was the club round the corner from the Hac called. You went down stairs to it and you could buy reefers off an old black fella in a trilby who sat at the end of the bar.

Always remember queuing outside waiting to go down the steps to get in, trying not to look too out of it when getting near the doorman, funny thing is everybody was smoking weed or dropping pills back then so everybody looked as fucked as each other!!! You were either stoned and looked like the rabbit out of magic roundabout or your eyes were popping out of your head like Toto Schillachi !!!!!

The Venue?

Could be. It was just round the corner from the Britons
