How on Earth does Mancini pick his team?

The Barcelona team basically picks itself (when all fit).
Madrid the same.
I would say Liverpool, Chelsea, United, Spurs, Newcastle and most the other teams in the top half of the table (or even most the teams in the league full stop) have the same core team when all are fit. A little tinkering with a forward here, or a holding mid here, winger here yes sure. I understand our need for rotation, fighting on four fronts and all, but if I were (and I know I am not Mancini) the City boss I would want my strongest team possible for almost every match, especially Europe and the league.

I personally think Mancini has a harder job picking our team some weeks than an International coach/manager does picking from entire pools of footballers.

How much weight do Platt...Kid...Lombardi etc have, or is it all Mancini? I'd like to read other peoples input on team selection processes, as I simply don't know. I don't know how team selection works at professional level as I dont know any top managers, and have no personal experience. Ultimately Mancini picks the team but how much, if any arguing/debating takes place between the coaches and the manager?

Mancini's tactics and selections are always queried, and we do it at the pub everytime here. We keep winning so he surely must know what he's doing right? I personally love our squad and don't care what 11 he puts out, especially at full time when we win. But it's easy to say things one way when winning every week, as opposed to saying things another way when we lose. I remember after the Bayern loss, I for one and another Blue were questioning the use of Zaba and Kola, and some of the other selections that day.

Could you drop Barry...Milner...Yaya...Ndj...Balotelli...Micah...Clichy...Silva(no)...Aguero...Dzeko...Lescott..Kompany.....and others the way they have been playing so far this season?

Sorry Nasri, A.J, Savic, Kolarov you are the first four who I could see on the subs bench at the moment, and I don't think it would hurt to see Aguero watch for a spell as he's fallen off a little as of late. Not an attack on those four I just wouldn't have them in my starting 11 at the moment and turn around to the bench and look at the faces I have behind me. I personally would have a hard time doing that even if we were playing a Latvian 3rd division team on a Thursday night friendly.

There's been matches where Milner has been sub, Balotelli been sub (again today), Barry been sub a lot recently etc. etc. etc. I hate thinking of such amazing performances by some of our players are rewarded by a rotation time on the bench. Am I the only one he thinks this? I get it I get, rotation rotation rotation, but how do you drop (which is what you are doing by not picking someone in your starting 11, dropping them) players after the 1-6 smashing for example?

Mancini wakes up on a Saturday morning.............''Oh yes, who'za do I play today yes?''

Personally it's a headache and problem I wouldn't mind having and solving.

These players will play in 8-9 games out of every 10:
Kompany, Lescott, Silva, Aguero, Yaya

These players will play 6-7 games out of every 10:
Nasri, Richards, Dzeko, Barry, Dejong, Balo

These players will play 4-5 games out of every 10:
Milner, AJ, Clichy, Kola

From what i have seen so far, this is the trend the management staff is consistently pursuing.

Therefore, our strongest line-up or "favoured in big games" is:
--------------------HART-------------------
---Richards----Vinny----Lescott----Clichy/Kola---
-----------Yaya--------Barry/dejong--------
-----Milner/Nasri-----Aguero--------Silva----
------------------Dzeko/Balo----------------
*The ones in bold is who is the more favoured choice

Still think Dzeko will ultimately win the battle with Balo to be our target man,he's just more professional. The best compliment I can pay him is that he's an 'accumulator of goals'

I would agree but I think it's besides the point. Another problem is that all of these players are dipping and rising in form, so outside of Kompany, Hart, and Silva I don't think that at the end of the season you could say with any certainty what the true, concrete "first team" was.

At the end of the day I think it's easiest to see it as they're all on rotation and form picks starters. Nasri may be a better player than Milner but I would start Milner if we played a game right now.

I have the worst memory on the planet, due to the brain cells I destroy with alcohol, but have we played Aguero Balotelli and Dzeko at the same time this season yet??

Aguero deeper Balo on a wing and Dzeko up top with Silva and whoever else behind? Is that even possible.
City v Wigan.....Hart, Richards Kompany Lescott Clichy Milner Yaya Silva Aguero Balotelli Dzeko......10 nil? 13-1? hahahahaha.

Personally if I was our manager my first 11 would be.

Hart
Micah Vinny Lesc Clichy
Barry Milner
Yaya Silva Balotelli
Aguero

....and I would select this lineup as often as deemed possible.

The truth is that Mancini picks names out of a hat. This explains Kolo playing at Bayern and Dzeko being benched after Spuds.

Trust me, I'm ITK ;)

Thats what I think hahaha
A la cup draw style.
Hart gets his own pot.
4 from the defender pot
1 or 2 from a 'holding mid' pot
4 or 5 from 'attacking mid/forward' pot

sorted.

Aguero isn't suited to that role right now, he'll learn to lead the line in the future like Di Natale at Udinese(another midget frontman) but I'd play him behind a target man for now. Although I agree that he should be as close to the goal as possible, maybe when we have a better midfield that can control possession better than now we can move him there. He's not really playing in a position which gets the best out of him ATM

Going from that...i would love to see a formation like this line-up against a wigan/swans/Norwich/etc:

-----------------Hart-----------------
----Richards-----Vinny-------Savic/JL--
------------Milner-------Barry---------
----Silva---------Yaya------Balotelli---
-----------Dzeko------Aguero---------

Now that would be scary for opposition defenders. C'mon Mancini...let us visualise such a combination. i think 10-0 is a greater reality with this system ;)

Better midfield who can control possession better? Up until that you've been great reading.................

Who would you want in our 'not up to scratch' midfield then mate?
Who would you leave out of our 'sub-standard' midfield?
Besides today, we have been dominating possession on a regular basis now for quite some time. We have to be close to 60-40 on average so far this year i'd imagine.

Aguero and Forlan together were hardly giants but they did ok mate.

I think it's simply going to be (like you or someone else above said) a form thing. Some weeks one is on, one is off etc. Today was Edins day...Balotelli probably would have had 1 or 2 if he starts. In fact, if Balotelli starts I rate him as scoring every single time, which is why I would start him as much as possible. He of ALL PEOPLE doesn't need to come on for 20mins at the moment.

As long as we are winning matches, and everyone is happy enough and buying into his policy and tactics then I am and I think we all are happy.
