How would or will other fans cope?

I have often thought as the years have unfolded since the late 60s and through the early to mid 70s, then on to the present day 2010. Just how would other sets of supporters cope with the challenge of what WAS the old Manchester City?. I mean to say we have been on an emotional roller coaster with little but for the odd promotion to cheer among some dark years....no decades Is an under statement!.. The reason my Interest In this question have resurfaced Is because of the undoubted change thats going on In football at the moment. The rags huge debt and ageing playing staff and more pressing (for them ) Liverpools seeming fall from the top table. I watched the Wigan game last night and the commentator said, " my my these loyal fans of Liverpool deserve better than this" and get this "they have had to put up with a lot this season".. I almost choked on my egg and chips when he said that, given what we have had to endure. It will be Interesting to see how the Liverpool fans cope If they go Into the wilderness for a while, much less 40 years like we have been. Testing times for the so called great fans of these clubs...lets see how great they are when times are hard. It maybe Interesting!

what fans would put up with decades of failure, embarrasment and relegation, while there close rivals win every possible trophy? only us my friend. thats why we deserve the success that is coming to us.

Most of them will cancel their Sky packages, that is why it will never be allowed to happen.

They will cope just the same as we did, Liverpool have a core support that wont drift away the same as ours didn't. Most clubs would be the same, we're no better or worse than others, the difference is that we've had a chance to prove our loyalty whilst the others haven't.

The '99 Play off win was hugely important because who knows what might have happened if we had to spend another season in that division? The core support wpould have remained fairly constant but we might have found it hard to attract the next generation to watch Wycombe and York?

Yeap me and my then 8 year old son were at the 99 play off. Had Paul not have scored that goal we would have been lost I think. Certainly no Commonwealth games, no modern City and of course no buy out by our Sheikh. I am more Interested how clubs cope that have had success, ie The rags and Liverpool, I mean the likes of us and Newcastle etc have not known any different, certainly the under 40s anyway. No I am wanting to see how gracious certain clubs and their fans would be If they went from success to abject failure. I mean Rafa could be the manager who takes a club with decades of always winning Into the obscure darkness that was ours not so long ago. Will It be the case that Its better to have had and lost than not to have had at all?. Depends If all the success turns you sour at the table of failure. I am watching and waiting!

I heard somebody on the radio the other day saying that 'English football needs a strong Liverpool', this was because of the strength of their brand history.

On the basis of this one statement alone I think they may be a long time in the wilderness. Scousers are a needy bunch, in fact the expressions 'chip on the shoulder' and 'world owes us a living' could have been coined just for them.

When that 2nd went in for the Gills there were alot of people muttering that they couldn't watch this anymore as they left en masse.

I genuinely believe that we were long-term fooked if the miracle had not happened then.

The significant hard core base of fans would have stayed on regardless but I doubt we'd have so many kids as we have now.

There's a fair chance that administration was waiting for us. Who knows if we'd have a 'blue knight' to save us.

We'd not be where we are now that's for sure.

Re other fans- the tossers will come and support City or whoever else is near/at the top. The core will stay (Leeds) etc.

Norwich have coped extremely well, they sell out every game at Carrow Road in League 1. Leeds not so much, i think they average less than we did and less than Norwich do, but this is there 3rd season down there isnt it!?

Sheff Weds are as successful as us with twice as many league titles as us and almost as many cup comp wins (without a Euro trophy tho!!) but they do not get great attendances! Actually they rarely sell out unless they play SheffU! and they could go down again this season!

It would be interesting to see if United or Liverpool slide! United already dont sell out every match, that with 3 successive league titles and 2 successive CL finals! What would it be like after 40 years without a trophy!????? it probably wouldnt be as bad as we'd like to think, all clubs have a core support that would support them anywhere, just like us, we're not anymore special than anyone else!

You certainly need a good sense of humour to be a blue, not sure how fans of any other club would deal with the shit we have, especially a club like Liverpool that have had it so good for so long.

Its annoying to see City fans getting so worked up these days over a supposed 'bad run of form', when in days not too far gone, we were utter shite. I'm just enjoying the ride!

When the Bully of Trafford retires the rags will experience a downturn in fortunes. That's only to be expected. Their core support will stay but the plastics will ditch them faster than the rate that Katie Price's knickers go down.

Probably many of them will start coming to see us.

Unfortunate, but true.

For the Rags it is all about winning things, that is all they care about. That is why they support United and not football and I believe their support would suffer if they were not winning. I have more appreciation for fans who go week in - week out to places like Bury, Hereford or Oxford than them. They go because they love the club and want to support them. I see us in a similar vain, yeah it will be great if we were winning things left right and centre but I will still support the team that through thick and thin. Either that or we are all clinically insane.

One thing to remember is that our support has waned over the years, I am sure we use to average around 18-20k for some seasons in the 80s.

Try being a Bradford City fan

2 admins from Premier to LG2 inside of 6 years and we still turn up in our thousands to watch the crap on display

The entertainment alternatives in Bradford are quite limited though aren't they; if it wasn't for the footie most of you would never leave the house.

Was gonna get all angry but sadly your right :(

Supporters of teams from the larger cities will always have a hard core of thousands.

Other teams' fans will cope the way we have. They will have seen very little in the way of major success for decade upon decade, but that is what you buy into if you become a proper fan.

It'll be intresting to see how the Rags cope if they keep spiralling into debt and cant hang onto the players that are keeping them afloat, how many will suddenly wanna become blues after all the wisecracks and smart comments we've had off em 4 years? Anyone order a large slice of Humble Pie?

No matter how much i would enjoy it, I don't see the Rags going anywhere. yes they have debt but they already have interested parties and will be there abouts for years.

The difference is that there will be more than 4 competeing for the CL places.

they last won the league 80 years ago
and the F.A. cup 75 years ago FFS !

and the league was won back to back twice so they had Two sides in their history
not having a go at weds they would be my second side if I had one but they are
hardly comprable to us
