Pep said on his Sky launch show thing they've been working on how to break down teams that play 5-4-1. This will be one of those games so will be interesting to see what the plan is.

Also think we might see three at the back in this.

Think @MarsLlama has it spot on there. Despite form/goals, I don't know if we'll see David for Bernardo for his creative angle and Jesus for Sterling for his link up and poaching.

Yeah I am curious to see what Pep has got up his sleeve. Maybe a 3-5-2 with Aguero AND Jesus as some have suggested.

I think we already saw it yesterday. The fullbacks got forward far more than they ever did last year, and they'll be key to breaking down the defences. More width and pace out wide, allowing all 3 forwards to get in the box but also, when the wingers are wide, those late underlapping runs inside.

Those in particular cause havoc because a lower table hard working winger might track Mendy or Walker making a run out wide, but they're not going to follow them into the box between their fullback and Centreback. If we can get those going - and we used them loads with Zaba in pellegrini's 13/14 season - then we'll run riot.

Yeah, but in the traditional idea of a 3-5-2 we would have 3 CBs and no wingers!

Wouldn't 3 CBs be a waste?

Maybe some new definition of 3-5-2 with Fern between 2 CBs.
Like @domalino just said.

Instead of @Blue Hefner taking the wingbacks out,

I would call it a 2-3-2-3:

.............................Keeper
.................CB......................CB.................
RWB.....................DM.......................LWB
..............RAM....................LAM................
...RW.....................CF................LW.........

Edit: it's not static anyway. We need to be variabel vs a deep static defense.

An additional CF is provided by the AMs getting into the box. Like Gundogan/Bernardo vs Arse.

Nota game where we will need pace until we score so can't see Sane starting. Maybe a good chance for Mahrez.

He scored against them last season, so yeah I'd start him. He just needs to calibrate his crosshairs, that's all. Nowt wrong with the lad

Everyone needs minutes. We all know Huddersfield will make zero attempts to attack like last year. This for me is a game why we brought Mahrez in. Can create something out of nothing. Go all out attack. I’d play:

Ederson

Walker Otamendi Kompany Mendy

Gundogan

Mahrez B.Silva KDB Sterling

Aguero

Only saw a few highlights of their game at the weekend but they gave Chelsea a few scares before the goals. Hoping for a better result than City had against them last season. (Most memorable one involving a Huddersfield team ended 39-4, mind that was a win for Swinton R.L. back in Albert Blan's day.)

Ederson

Walker
Stones
Laporte

Sterling
De Bruyne
Bernardo
Mendy

Mahrez
Aguero
Jesus

We need an early goal, no stupid mistakes at the back and more clinical finishing. These are the games where we have a chance to try and build up a nice goal difference.

Along with Cardiff I wouldn't be upset if they go down. In fact, I'd be delighted.

Same team as Arsenal except Kev for Gundogan.
