Hull (a) Post Match Thread

Just back and I'll certainly take the 3 points after a turgid first three-quarters of the game. What was utterly frustrating was our reluctance or even inability to make things happen in the final third most of the time. We'd have five players lined up just outside the 18 yard box and it was pass, pass, pass, pass, pass from left to right. Then pass, pass, pass, pass, pass all the way back. There were a couple of moments where we had the ball on the right and De Bruyne was on the left and it was screaming for a diagonal run across his defender to meet a diagonal ball in from the other side. Yet neither he nor the player with the ball saw the opportunity. Arsenal or Liverpool players would be making these runs into the box with their team-mates primed to expect them.

It's really not good enough from players of this quality. There wasn't anywhere near enough movement when we were in promising positions and we're going to win fuck all until we show a little bit of guile & imagination in that area. Once we did get a bit more direct, things happened, albeit the first was a penalty and the last an own goal. The second goal was a thing of beauty however and more like the sort of thing we should be doing. Thought Otamendi was outstanding, as was Yaya.
Pretty much as I saw it. We really have to cut out the Tiki-Taka crap when we aren't 2 or 3 goals up.
Run at the opposition. Get behind them. Punish them.
Need to improve our counter attack speed to have a chance of the title.

Watching it back, I think it was a case of De Bruyne telling him to get across the defenders and ready for the pass from Silva rather than expecting a ball straight through.

Probably.

But also that's where Kelechi would most likely end up,as he did in most other attacks, but unlike DeBruyne, he is a goalscorer, therefore won't necessarily make it dead obvious for the defenders to read.

A contradictory post there PB
Yaya is the reason we pass pass pass from side to side
