The commentator during the Rags match on Monday mentioned that if they win the PL then Blackburn get a further £2M as part of the Phil Jones transfer.
I believe that, based on current PL prize money, it's more than the reward for finishing 2 places higher in the table
Hypothetically then, what if Blackburn had been in no danger of relegation at this stage of the season. The financial incentive for beating the Rags and possibly finishing in a higher position may well have been less than losing and helping them to the title. When the transfer was completed no-one of course knew how this season would pan out.
Now I know that this wasn't the case on Monday, but that was only due to Blackburn's own plight down at the bottom. What if they had been sitting in mid-table safety ? What if it had been the last day of the season ? Blackburn could have guaranteed themselves the pay-out and robbed us of the Championship. I've no doubt that Venky's would have given Keane his instructions to roll-over for the £2M.
My point is this : How can it be legally and morally acceptable for this type of clause to be included in any transfer between 2 Premier League Clubs ?
First team appearances ? Yes. International caps ? Yes.
Scenarios which directly affect League positions and other Clubs ? No.
