I hate our 4-2-3-1 tactics.

There it is, I’ve said it!
I am sick and tired of our 4-2-3-1 system, and it never seemed to work for us, not even last season even thou we won the league.
Often it takes us ages to get the ball from the defence and forward into a frontal position.
Most of the times yaya and barry get all the way back to pick up the ball and try to hit a long ball forward.
If that doesn’t happen Dzeko or Tevez comes all the way back to the midfield to get pick up the ball, and try to get things started.
Most of our passes are straight forward, so the attacker got the goal on his back and 3 or 4 defenders around him, or the ball goes sideways.
Its so rare we get a pass forward which is in an angle so the attacker is facing the goal and has some options.

Let me sum up my feelings for those of you who are lazy.

1. Link up play is none existing (Silva is our only player to do this)
2. to slow build up play
3. Passes are too directly, and receiver almost always got his back to the goal
4. Too crowded in the CB+DM

Now I am not a manager or a tactic wonder genius, but here goes.

I suggest a 4-4-2 Diamond wide, or a 4-3-3.
I like the 4-3-3 the best because it suits our current squad the best i think, and it creates alot of space for counters and for the backs in the build up play.

I would line us like this.

---------------------- Hart-------------------
--------------Kompany---Nastasic-----------
Richards/Zab---------------------------Clichy
----------------------------------------------
----------------------Barry------------------
------------------------------Yaya-----------
--------------Silva---------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
------Aguero---------------------------Nasri
--------------------Tevez--------------------

I'm having a bit of trouble with the logic here. If we played 4-2-3-1 and we won the league, it must have worked. Or were we the team who got the reffing advantage of a penalty and a sending off in the first quarter hour?

Of course it worked.

You say you hate our 4-2-3-1 formation and then write out a formation that pretty much boils down to 4-2-3-1. Make your mind up buddy.

Both left backs were injured last night. That made it difficult. Affected us against Everton too

I feel like we won the league last year because of indivudial skills from different players, and not because of our tactics and systems.

A good setup makes all the players look better then they are, for example.
Dortmund, Bilbao, Shaktar and so on.

A bad setup makes worldclass players look not so world class, and right now thats us.

-- Wed Dec 05, 2012 9:34 am --

Nasri is our only option for that position right now, unless you want

------Tevez---------------------------Aguero
--------------------Dzeko/Bal----------------

But this aint FM and you need balance.

My whole point is not about who is injured and which player should play on which position.
My point is our build up play is slow, predictable and too easy to defend.
Took Real and rest of La liga several years to figure out Barca, and what makes the tick, still they are nearly impossible to counter.

For us, almost everyone figured us out, and that’s just not good enough.
Plan A never worked perfectly, and we’ve got no plan B

Are you taking into account injuries?

Mancini is the most tactically astute manager I have seen in the Premiership. Mourinho was good too
