I Know It’s Over

This season is the type of season I was expecting last season.

I personally believe the players are physically and mentally knackered, probably more mentally. I say mentally because every thing seems just the milli second off. The timing of the pass, the decision.
The effort is still there but the speed of the brain isn't !

The lads were running on empty last season but we found ways to win, than they had a summer of internationals again.

This team has done the treble than 4 in a row plus set countless new records. We are everyone's cup final times 10. Teams are happy to beat us and than lose the next few games.

The players bodies are knackered they don't get the correct rest period between games. Hence the increase in injuries, this means Pep can't rotate so the fit players are playing more than get injuries.

Our luck is well and truly out this season, nothing is going our way.

I'm going to sit back enjoy the dieing embers of the greatest team England has ever seen. Looking forward to the reset. And still hoping we can win the pl this season

Note to self avoid matchday thread.
....even better scrap the MDT.

It brings nothing but embarassment. to the club, team and fans.

Morons,imbeciles and ignoramus's....fuck em orf.

I would like to be challenging in Europe, but you cannot afford one mistake in the Champions League, and I think there are a few teams with players that could exploit our weaknesses. Even when we are at strength, riding high, and home to Internazionale, we were ruthlessly exposed and a tad fortunate not to lose. We have regressed since last season and are too slow in too many departments, meaning we can be sliced open by pace. I can foresee a repeat of Lyon in the spring should we progress.

If we sign two players in January, then we can still have a crack at the League, but I agree that much will depend on the results in the coming weeks. If we keep dropping points, however, the players themselves will know there is too much to do. By way of comparison, we lost 6 and drew 1 from around this time in 2019-20.
I think the league is virtually gone now. 8 points behind and they have a game in hand. We’d have to go on an unbelievable run and i can’t see it happening. The scousers have a stronger squad, you’d fancy Arsenal to get more points than us from here and Chelsea certainly have a stronger squad.

Look, i’m not expecting us to win the European Cup either but as we know the best team doesn’t always win that one. If a couple of defenders could get fit and we sign a decent defensive mid. With Grealish, KDB, Doku, Bobb and maybe Foden starts to look like Foden again we could be a different proposition come February. Who not many teams would fancy playing over 2 legs.

It isn’t over, even if we get a huge fine or points deduction. The 115 might, at a stretch, lead to potential relegation, and hence the departure of players we would prefer to keep, but the club has developed an academy second to none, and the CFG has a network of clubs who have players capable of getting us promoted and go again. The club’s owners are savvy enough to avoid the fine mess United have gotten themselves into (apologies to Laurel and Hardy, who would probably have done a better job post-Baconface).

I can understand the argument, but for me we just make too many mistakes in games to win the Champions League. We’d probably empty a top team and then come a cropper against a ‘lesser’ team.
It was already obvious that things were going awry before we went to White Hart Lane, but we fielded an unnecessarily strong side only to go out and pick up more knocks. The club needs to accept that with this current squad it cannot challenge on all fronts this season, so I hope it puts the focus on the League and exert the pressure.

If we continue playing like this it’s over but we’ve proven all the critics wrong time and time again.

However does feel as though we just don’t have the personnel this year without Rodri and lack of a consistent back 4. Aswell as a drop in form to some of our key players. Getting Ake and Stones back is really important but they have to be rotated and can’t play every 3 days.

I think all the main issues stem from Rodri - he affects every part of our game the main issue though is with the physicality in midfield - Rico/Gundo/Bernardo - get ran of over and Kovacic isn’t much better.

I think in January we need another defensive number in. A right sided defender. Someone like Simakan/Geertruida type. I think another versatile profile like Akanji. And then definitely a number #6 , I want someone that gives us that physical edge can do the dirty work out of possession and is physically better than anyone we currently have. Ederson seems a decent shout.

I think we will be much better offensively second half of the season; Foden , Doku , Grealish (Bobb should return) , Savinho should all improve. Doku in particular I feel could be pivotal from the second half of the season.

We just have to focus on each game at a time and we will see where we are in May. We don’t know what circumstances will happen for all we know Liverpool could have a big injury crisis. I mean surely VVD and Salah can’t keep playing every 3 days at their age. Either way we can have another crack at the FA Cup and UCL too but will need to improve significantly defensively.

As always full faith in Pep and lads who have given us so much over the years.

Agree with a lot of that apart from the forget Europe and challenge domestically bit. The league is gone, finishing in the top 3 looks unlikely. We should have one or 2 lined up for January and if we get them i don’t see why a real shot at the European cup isn’t possible. There is not much to fear in Europe and 4th place in the league should be well possible due to apart from the top 3 nobody else looking particularly consistent.

By the time January comes we could easily be 16/20 points behind the scousers. The squad is simply to weak and with the injuries we have it would be a big surprise if we don’t drop a good few more points. 2nd half of the season could be very different however, if the injuries to key defenders begin to improve. Doku continues to improve and Bobb comes back. Plus a signing or 2. Hopefully the season can still ens up an enjoyable one and the pressure to win yet another title inevitably disappears.
4th and FA Cup will be a wonderful season
