Still!

He may not be as influential as he was last season but we're a better team now. I'd prefer him to stay rather than go elsewhere. And he's definitely the best footballer our academy has produced.

The comments I've seen on here are just bizzare more than anything.

So yeah, fuck you! I'm positive.

Agreed... but how can you be influential when you come on as sub every third game !?!?! Stevie's far from an impact sub and needs to be involved from the start. Anyone who's played the game, at any level, should realise this.

I'm a big Joe Cole fan but if he comes in the summer then kiss goodbye to Stevie. Football-wise, we'll have to wait and see, but there's no doubting which one would fight the hardest for City.

A real shame, if he leaves.

If he can sort himself out then it would be great if he stayed but if he doesn't regain his form then it's not worth him being at our club.

I worry that this year might be more the norm for Stevie and if you look through his career, it would point to being the case. For me the biggest issue with Ireland is he needs games(not unlike Tevez)and with the people around him in midfield you simply can't afford anyone thats not performing because it's so easy for us to be over-run.

I'm so happy to see this thread, these recent put-downs on Stevie have been pathetic. He was amazing last season and unfortunately seemed to burn himself out this year and had a bit of a worrying moment against Fulham in the Carling Cup I think it was, when he had to go to hospital and I think this played a big part in him losing a little bit of confidence.

We should be doing everything we can to build his confidence back and make him have another amazing season...AT CITY! If he sees the put-downs he's receiving from some on here he might have another amazing season next season but it might not be for us and that would be an absolutely stupid thing for some people on here to allow happen.

We can't lose our Superman! Please don't listen to the haters Stevie, just prove them wrong for the majority of City fans who still think you are our Superman!

I think we'll see how good he can be for us next season.

We have to remember that this is first season, ever, in a very good team.

He has to stay though, he's class.

He moans whenever he isn't played in his best position, and when he does play in that position, the team as a whole suffers.

He was doing well at the start of the season, but then seemed to go off the boil when he realised he wasn't gonna get the free role of last season.

I want to love him I really do, and he is without doubt a good player. However, even the staunchest Ireland fans would have to admit that he's only had one really good season for us. Perhaps the truth is that he is not really as good as we thought & hoped.

we need home grown talent in the side. if we let him go and SWP we will have lost two people who love this club.

They don't love the club, at least not in the way us fans do. Plus, why do we need home grown talent to be successful? We need good, hungry players no matter where they come from.

He has only had one good season for us. It was also the only season where he's been first choice in his favoured position. He's 23. I think he's too young to be dismissed as a one season wonder.

I somewhat agree with this.

I remember seeing Ireland play on the wing for his country years ago, and thinking that he's a special talent. His performances for ROI when he was younger were great.

He had a great first half of last season, where the team was focused around his particularly skill. When the January signings such as Bellamy, De Jong, Given came in, he seemed to withdraw a little, despite still playing his favoured position.

In my opinion, Stevie's problems are not talent related, they are mental. This persistent whinging about not playing in his favoured position, not bring first choice, etc, is doing nobody any good and I think that Bizzbo's point about individual responsibility has hurt Ireland.

We should definitely keep him, the more he settles into his family life and the more mature he becomes, the better a player he will become. We will vastly regret it if we sell him.

Look at Bellamy years ago, he's a bit comparable to what Ireland is now. Nobody has ever been in doubt about Bellamy's talent, but his attitude towards the game was all wrong, and he blamed everybody around him for it. When he got married and settled down, his attitude on the pitch greatly increased and we are know seeing the benefits of it.

Those who are saying he isn't fit to wear the shirt that once held George Weah, Craig Russell and Peter Beardsley need to grow up.

I'm concerned at the attitude of most of our Academy graduates. Richards, SWP and now Ireland have all being criticised because they are refusing to look within to find the problems from their form or careers. Last close season, Ireland proved that he has the ability to grab the bull by the horns, yet we still have a player who is pointing at a million other excuses.

Stephen Ireland has no divine right to play in his favoured position, or even to play at all. The way to get in the team, is to perform to a level where you are undroppable. The idea that Ireland is a far diminished player because he is playing deeper is a silly one. It just means that he has to be smarter and watch when he can get forward, and if he can, he has to run an extra 10 yards.

Ireland is a talented player but I'm yet to be convinced at the man.

I've spent a good few seasons defending Stevie. I'm desperate for him to find the kind of form which saw him scoring superb goals and unlocking defences. I just wish he would come out and tell us he's similarly desperate to find his top form in a blue shirt.

the scum persever with players like fletch and in the end convince everyone there a top player we need to do the same with our academy players

Ireland was at total fault for copper heads goal...however, all the team gave him far too much space in a position hes been scoring for bloody years...didnt mancini brief the team on this,? didnt bellamy and the other battle hardened prem players realise this? No space, no goals {usually} ..SIMPLES...........
