Iced Cream Men

I could do without any aggro. The idea was maybe to pay someone for a pitch on private land but I'd imagine a decent spot could be pretty expensive even if it was still available. A mate looked into it down in Essex. A council bloke showed him a spot and said make me an offer for it. But he reckoned it was too far off the beaten track to be worth it.

Tough game to get into, as most of the pitches are taken. When I had a burger van (not too long ago) I used to talk to one guy who had his own van for a good few years, and he said he'd taken a lot of shite in the last 2-3 years from a certain group of people as they were after his pitch - this including having his wife followed. Ice cream wars on a much smaller scale. However, didn't sound like a good idea to me!

My granddad had a hand pushed ice cream cart in the 30s. Granelli's already had a few carts and were established. Everywhere he went they sent one of theirs and undercut him. They sold at a loss until he went out of business.

One used to pull up near my house. The first time I went up as I fancied a 99 but he looked like a right scruffy **** who could grow spuds in his finger nails so I just got a bag of crisps instead. He still drives in now and then , parks up for a minute but no one comes and fucks off again!

The "Italian" one near the Eastlands Bar on Grey Mare Lane on match day always seems to be busy. He looks like the one that used to park outside the school gates at dinner time - although I doubt any ice cream van could still be going after all that time!
