Woke belongs in the same category as words/phrases such as SJW, virtue signaller, cutural marxism and other right wing nonsense that is used to deflect from scrutiny and embed a feeling of victim culture in the perpetrator of the usage.
Again, you seem to be trying hard to blame some evil group for the self descriptive nature of another evil group.

Social Justice Warrior was something college kids schooled in the asinine theories of Social Justice used to scream about 5 years ago. They weren't labeled that. They called themselves it.

Same with 'Woke.' Virtue Signalling might have been a label, but it wasn't from the Alt Right. It's anyone with common sense who finds people who do this pretend "show of support' thing annoying.

Black Liberals (again speaking America) used to accuse White liberals of such. So it's not an Alt Right thing.

You however are exhibiting a bit of what folks often accuse Leftist of: I.e. labelling anything you NOW disagree with as Alt Right.

There is a vast spectrum of ideas between the far left and Alt Right.

As for Cultural Marxism. Conservatives use this term across the board to refer to a strain of intellectual ideas emanating from the Cultural, and Social Science fields of study in the Universities that Centers their Study on victimhood based of group identity.

And In so far as it might be true that Alt Righter's use this term, they are not the only ones who do and there is a legitimate basis for so doing.

The trick of labelling things you want surpressed by associating it with the Alt Right will only work on those who don't know better...

I don't want them surpressed, they are used to surpress.

The origins of Cultural Marxism are based on Cultural Bolshekivism, an anti semitic conspiracy theory that emanated from the right wing economic schools of Frankfurt and taken up by the Chicago school. But because us on the left are accused of being anti semitic on a regular basis we cant expose it for what it is. Its a nonsense and as for Social Justice, the Labour party in the UK has been the party of Social justice from its inception, but social justice is now ridiculed by the right and used by the alt right to attack any idea that results in an equitable society, just the same as woke and virtue signaller are used as a form of attack on the left in the UK. Expressing somebody is a virtue signaller is a powerful put down as indicates somebody is driven by self regard, but what it actually does is detract from the point that is being made. In effect you are attacking the point maker rather than the point made. Its almost Trumpian in its ridiculousness. Just because a point comes from a person who you may not expect say Gary Lineker it is not to say he is acting from self regard, he is attacked for being a virtue signaller because how can a rich footballer have a social conscious. The right see that as hypocrisy, its not hypocrisy, he cares, just because he has wealth should not detract from the point being made. Hence virtue signalling is is an attempt to supress expressions of a person based on a perception of his identity. What virtue signalling has achieved is that it has made posturing from a point of authority more agreeable, now I wonder who would want that to happen?

BTW you are using America whilst i am using the UK, two different places, two different political systems and we actually have left wing politics although the leader of the Labour party is doing his best to eradciate it by posturing from a position of authority because you see he can, because creating the narrative of virtue signalling around the left allows him to do so.

The thing about the term virtue signalling is that it's exclusively used in recent years to refer to those on the "left" but in reality, it's something that people engage in throughout the political spectrum. When Trump goes for a photoshoot holding a bible, what is that if not virtue signalling? On something like Twitter, literally everything people share or retweet is designed to increase their profile amongst their chosen tribe. Let's be honest, religions are the original virtue signallers. There's a reason that when some groups of Catholics engage in self-flagellation, it's always done in public. If it really was about your personal relationship with God, there would be no problem with doing it in private. It's not about that, it's about showing how devout you are, and specifically how much more devout you are than everyone else. And you see the same thing happening often with self-described woke people, who race to find something to be offended by, and more obscure things to be offended by, not because they genuinely find it offensive, but because they know that they will get lots of positive feedback and status from their peers if they're able to bring it to the attention of everyone else. It can also be very difficult in that sort of echo chamber to speak out when people go too far, without risking your own status, unless they've already got quite a lot in the bank. But let's not pretend the right haven't been doing this for years too. Right wing voices on Twitter are also scouring the internet to find anything that will make their followers blood boil. Hell, the whole tabloid press is based off this premise.

I agree with the point you are making; especially the point on those who use
Twitter but I don’t believe all ‘celebrities’ use it just for positive feedback.

They, like us in this forum have views on what goes on in society and whether they support or oppose current policy, they are entitled to comment just as everyone else on Twitter does - jus as long as they are not inciting hatred or being abusive about ethnicity, creed or sexuality (or City!)

Unfortunately, in today’s polarised society, no one wants to listen to the views of those who don’t share theirs.

Woke was originally used by the whole themselves, when they kept on saying “wake up” etc.

Your incessant cause in falsely describing terminology on this thread, to fit your own agenda, is amusing.

"Woke" is a left-wing political term in it's origin, not right wing.

Absolutely. Not everyone who gives an opinion on a topic is doing it to make themselves look good, but there are a subset of people, particularly on social media, who have a profile built around a particular set of values, and there's often this race to the bottom of devoutness.

I see some Salford Rugby Club players refused to kneel at the start of their game.

Despite the fact they wore anti racism t shirts they’ve received death threats.

What a fucking wonderfully inclusive lot these social justice warriors are.

“Agree with us or we’ll kill you”.

Think it was Sale RFC players but agreed.

It proves what we say and that is both sides, left and right, especially the fucking loons that live on social media are utter fucking cunts.

Well maybe they should direct their ire at said continent for enslaving their ancestors and selling them to the west. Or maybe they don't want that as a heritage after all, but at least they have the privilege to misdirect their anger at modern day equals who've done nothing wrong.

They may be able to do so if their history is taught in schools so they gain and understanding of what happened and what they then may be able to do about it. Its basically something tacked on to the school curriculum for a month each year - not sure how in depth the education is in the States but again they have a month for it there too - in neither case is it comprehensive and I am not sure what, in our case, it does to teach about colonialism in places like India.

This is an interesting link to read. Cancel culture is not new and has been practised across the globe by white colonialists for centuries
