It’s a lose lose situation for us if it does though.

I feel we are reluctant members to this super duper league. I hope we are dithering to appease unfortunate as it seems.

If we don’t join the ESL
- We miss out on this cartel of big name clubs and its not a revolving door.
- We’re stuck in a league and comps other than the CL where we might perennially edge everyone out. Like F1 during the Ferrari era.
- players go for bigger pay, and ESL will be where the money will be.

If we join the ESL
- Our fanbase will be replaced by tourists, brokers and people who can’t tell between football and frisbee.
- We miss out on heritage cups and trophies
- What if it fails

I personally believe our hands are being forced here to be part of the ESL, there’s nothing there for us to gain. Macroeconomics wise we’re on the up and up, we dont have a saturated fanbase and our financial numbers strengthen year on year, unlike the other clubs.
 
If it doesn't go ahead then damage has still been done but I'll still support the club.

But we'll have lost the chance to ever whinge about the "history boys" and their claim to the thrown because we've got into bed with them now. I was glad the club took it to UEFA over FFP which we know is there to protect the monopoly. But clearly the aim was to jump into bed with them, sell out on our principles and become part of it. I wanted the club to bring FFP down and create more competition by enabling others to benefit from their investment. The rags and dippers would be screwed because they're investment tools. But other clubs could have really thrived.

I was clearly being stupid. There's no way we're any different. We wanted FFP brought down so we could build a squad that established itself at the top table. And now we've found a platform where we can make even more money and not face the risk of not qualifying. It's ideal from a business perspective. But it's so far removed from what football is about. It's completely devalued other competitions and I feel like it will cast a shadow over any of our achievements this season.

I'm so so hopeful we pull out of it and release a statement that confirms our position due to our fans clear opposition to the tournament. But in my opinion this has been done to force UEFA into doing something broadly similar with the CL. Provide a wildcard so that some of the old timers can still get in and make lots of money even if they don't deserve to be there on merit. It's bollocks.

Given the silence from all of the clubs, I’m assuming this is a pre agreed strategy. None of the managers have said anything significant either. I suspect they are waiting for the worst of the shitstorm to blow over.
