If we don't sign anyone this summer...

We need another player to tip the balance in those games where we have found it difficult to break down serially defensive teams. Balotelli is one key but when he's got it on 'im, we need another. And if Tevez departs, we will need a couple. The defence is more than good enough but we have needed a goal in a handful of matches this year that would have made the difference. We will be in the same position next season as we have been in this one - fourth won't be certain until late in the season, and only better than that if other teams cock up.

1. Chelsea
2. Rags
3. City
4. Arse/Spuds

Arsenal to win the league? No chance.

Unrelated: some of the delusion in this thread is phenomenal.

Ontopic: Where do people keep getting the idea that Chelsea's squad is old? Man United's average squad age is a lot higher. Terry, Lampard and Drogba are the oldest regulars and all 3 have replacements brought in already. Its a media induced myth.

Short of Arsenal changing their philosophy and spending a lot of money they wont win the league, the will however be very difficult to dislodge.

Liverpool are nowhere near good enough yet.

Man United, having an older squad than Chelsea, and having many of them retire either next season or the season after, are in a position of weakness unless their replacements are all genius signings.

City have come a long way but seriously get a grip. Win an FA cup and secure CL football and now you're winning the league? See how you do competing on multiple fronts at the highest level every week for one season before jumping the gun.

The title will be between Chelsea and United next season.

You've answered your own question. Media, the 'font of all knowledge'. Pity most of it is made up bollocks aimed at increasing sales by selling perceptions.

How many posts on here say that? You're as bad as the media ;-)
You have to allow for the ones who get carried away with it all, and stop getting carried away yourself.

Quite agree, although I think we will be close. Chelsea should have won it the last 4 or 5 seasons but kept shooting themselves in the foot (mostly with managers). Doesn't look good for you next season on that score either!

United have some big players to replace. I don't think they have signed as good in the past few years (chick pea excepted) as previous and this 'one for the future' just seems like 'can't afford players we know are good enough'.

But, for City, the season after next looks good though :D

We will bring 2 or 3 in, the chairman was expressing the position that there will not be wholesale buys, as in the previous 2 summers, "quality not quantity" as he put it, plus we will have to get rid of the deadwood, 3 in = 3 or 4 out.

Castiel, slow day at work for me so I trawled Chelsea's website.

Cech 29
Ivanovic 27
Cole 30
Luiz 24
Terry 30
Essien 28
Lampard 32
Malouda 30
Ramires 24
Torres 27
Drogba 33

Average age 28.5

That's an ageing team man. No media myth there.

If we don't sign anyone and neither does anyone else then I would expect Chelsea, Us and rags to battle it out for the title.
I think we will be the side to improve most without any incoming players, experience, first tatse of success, use to the league etc.
If we dont sign anyone but the rags, arse, dippers chelsea all make quality signing we will battle for 4th an possibly lose out, but lets be realistic its not going to happen.

We struggled to get 4th last season the odds on people agreeing that we would secure 4th and battle for 3rd at the same time winning our first Major trophy for 35 years would of been slim.
