Who can play as a lone front man (Villa, Drogba, RSC at a push) then I think this will have been a very successful transfer window for us. Hughes is buying in all the right positions and, in the main, is buying experienced premiership and international players.

We are not as bad as our league position says and I feel the last half of the season (assuming we get the striker and Given) could be pretty special.

If it isn't, then Hughes's head will definitely roll.

Completely agree!

I think Hughesy should get a lot of credit, he is looking to strengthen in all the right areas

I've got a good feeling about the remainder of this season !

Agree.

Our main priorities were:

Left back, central midfield, striker, centre half, keeper.

It looks like he has signed all of these, apart from a centre half. However, the signing of another midfielder means Kompany can challange for centre half.

i think we should try a cheeky bid for agger?, obviously given seems done and then maybe let ADUG and cook carry on for a world beater like villa, ibra or diego

all in all quite a good transfer window shame the press have tried to ruin it

Totally agree with everything there Dave, except 1 little thing.

Im probably in the minority but im not big on RSC as a quality striker. If he can bring last seasons form with him then no problem, but he is looking far from that in the games he's been fit for this season.

Apart from that, im with you all the way.

I agree, Chelt, that's why I said "at a push" after his name.

I think he is better than we have got, but there are doubts as to whether he can get 20 goals again.

Tell ya something tho mate, for 1 who has had his feet firmly in the Hughes out camp for the last 6 weeks, if we do get the striker and Given that you suggest, i am surprisingly positive about the look of the team that is unfolding.

Probably not a 6th or 7th this season, but dsefinatly a more balanced look to us and a team now capable of diggin it in.

i dont see any reason why we cant challenge for 6th or 7th, Hughes's teams are always stronger in the second half of the season, and with the players he has brought in we look a hell of alot stronger in the areas where we were weak.

personally ive been impressed with Hughes so far and it sounds like the players have aswell, dunne and stevie ireland coming out this week saying how good training is, how they all feel fitter and saying they were very impressed with teh work he was doing behind the scenes.

Come on city, top 6 and winning the uefa cup will do this year.

Fair enough, 7th is prob realistic, but we are 11 points off 6th and if your faith is going to be justified, then the next 4 games are going to be crucial. After that, its a hit and miss run-in. 11 points are a lot to make up, but lets hope you are right and im totally wrong. I reckon it might be too tall an order.

As for Hughes, i have been impressed enough with his signings, but his managerial qualities have been f*ckin shocking for much of the season so far.

Again I agree, Chelt.

The next four games are crucial.

The target has to be UEFA qualification.

Anything less is a failure.

6th is 11 points off but we have a game in hand. If we can win that which won't be easy as Pompey never is but might not be a bad time to play them, then its 8 points and it doesnt look so unacheivable.

The number of UEFA places will depend on the two cups, too. We need United to win the League Cup and one of the top 4 to win the FA Cup.

I strongly suspect the Fair Play League is beyond us this year....!

Although the UEFA Cup winners automatically qualify....!!!!!

Then lets hope the 'IF' comes good then.
