Injuries have definitely taken the edge off Gundogans game.imo.Agree with you.
When we signed him I thought he would be the best midfielder in the league. He used to run games from deep, keeping possession and playing great attacking passes. He seemed to be all over the pitch. Whether injuries have been his demise I don't know but he hasn't been that player and De Bruyne fortunately has become the best in the league.
He seems to excel when a game is won or against lesser opposition. In any tough game though you wouldn't want him starting and that's why unless something changes we should look to replace him.
And that is understandable .They were not small injuries.they were damaging knee injuries, bound to play on a players mind when he is playing centre mid in the sometimes brutal premier league.
I have to say,i think the player is a fine Footballer, even tho it irritates me that he is yet another block to Fodens path to regular 1st team football..Gundog ,in his hey day,was everything Pep demanded of a central midfield player..and lets not forget..he bossed Barcelona in the champs league at the etihad...i just think we have not really seen ,consistently ,the player Pep wanted. His first signing.that says a lot,but he was already injured..i think at the time we signed him..or had just come back from a serious knee injury........then picked up another serious knee injury.it has affected both his demeanour (not always biting into challenges) and his mobility....but as i say..all understandable .i,m glad he is around our squad, but i dont think the manager has now,the player he thought he signed.
If that makes sense.
