He looked more like Phil Jupitus than a premier league footballer when he came on!

Slightly rotund was Ilkay today !

Great news with the contract. I think we have an underrated gem here

Really don't get why people say he was so bad on Sunday, thought he did ok.

The fact that he has played both 8 and 6 helps a lot, if we are planning on transitioning to 3-5-2 within games then i think he would fit really well in that system. Brilliant news.

Great news that Ilkay has signed a new contract.

He offers us something different in midfield and is as good a dead-ball specialist as we have.

And, as he proved last season, he is also more than adequate back-up for the pivot rôle. He has a wealth of experience and will help Phil Foden to further his education this season and after Merlin has left.

I’m delighted that the Gundog has decided to stay at Etihad.

Not to sound like a Juve twitter fan but... Did Ilkay just inadvertently confirm Pep is staying for "another atleast 4 more years"? :)

Edit: Could be a case of lost in translation, this will be Gundo's 4th season.

IlkayGuendogan on being the most influential player in Europe statistically, towards the end of last season: “I’ve read this as well. I’ve had it sent over from a few people. I’ve never really been a huge fan of statistics, and I’m still not...”

If Ilkay sees out his contract and leaves on a free in four years' time, I doubt anyone would begrudge him.

If he stays here until the summer of '23, that will be seven years with us and a large chunk of Gundog's career.

Really pleased he's signed a further contract. Was important to us in the run in last season.
