Hi Guys

Regardless of how the next few days goes for the blues, this season's definitely been one of city's most successful in terms of league placing and results in recent years.

For one of the topics on this week's phone in we'll be looking back at arguably the last great season since then to compare and contrast. Back in 76/77 we saw a 2nd placed finish in the league to a Bob Paisley led Liverpool side.

So how do today's heroes compare to those of yesteryear? We'd like to hear the memories and opinions of fans lucky enough to be supporting the club back in the 70's. Are we set for a new era of success or do today's stars like the work ethic we used to see on the pitch?

If you want to have your say give our newsline a call on 0161 609 1425 and ask to speak to Chris or Helen. It'll all be pre-recorded (ie. not live) and should take no more than a couple of minutes of your time!

Thank you!

Chris.

We should have won the league that year - City threw it away just like they did a few years earlier. The last minute own goal v Liverpool at Maine Rd in late December was a real sickener.

Second place was no good for getting into the Champions League then. Only the champions entered it, and fourth place just scraped you into the Europa league.

And in the return match at Anfield we switched off after equalising and Liverpool scored the winner straight from the restart. If either goal hadn't been conceded we'd have been champs.

To be honest, losing Colin Bell for the season was far more influential. We would have walked that season. Qualfying for the European Cup would have followed and a steady stream of success.

Instead we ended up with Swales throwing his barnet in, appointing Allison and sliding into a 30 year depression.

I was four and have no recollection of the event but my dad said I threw a tantrum because we were not Champions. My nannas partner who I called Uncle Harold introduced me to City as he would work the turnstiles at both City and Utd, but only at Maine Rd would we watch the 2nd half and he had convinced me that City would win and I could touch the cup when we won. My dad is a red and was laughing to himself my mam who has no football alliance scolded him and vowed to support City every time they played from that day on.

Forward 12yrs to the 5-1 and I'm 16 and gets home pissed singing my head off, Dad is just about to bollock me and my mam reminds him of the day when he was laughing at me whilst a nipper and says "he who laughs last laughs Longest" to which my dad went out to drown his sorrows. Thanks Uncle Harold for 32 yrs of rollercoaster rides I would not change it for anything.

fantastic side that was and was more or less the same every week

Corrigan Clements Donachie Doyle Watson Oakes Barnes Royle Kidd Hartford and Tueart.Almost a full team of internationals and with Bell would have walked the league.Unfortunately Allison got rid of the lot.

We blew it with a series of 4 consecutive away defeats around Feb/March time, including the infamous mudbath at Derby with the retaken penalty. Strange as it seems we weren't really threatening to win it in the last month or so and were fortunate to get second as Ipswich fell away. The league table makes it seem slightly closer than it was. Although it was a cracking season spoiled by poor cup defeats.

And yes, the late draw against Liverpool over Christmas was a real pisser.

Thanks everyone!

If you're interested in listening between 9pm and 10pm this Sunday evening on Imagine FM, we'll be playing exclusive interviews with Peter Barnes and Tony Book - well worth tuning in for I'd say ;-)
