IMPORTANT. Help speed up Bluemoon.

couldnt we just make it so every user has to register to read the forums?

surely getting rid of the 500 guests would speed things up?

Yes, but that would go against the freedoms that BM is already known for. As I have previously said, there is no reason for us to put restrictions on users anywhere. The server is a dedicated one, and is more than capable of handling 5000 users at the same time. We are let down by some inefficiency in the forum software, and some little settings that need tweaking. The Mark All Forums Read thing is a small act that users can do which will help the site until we get the rest of the problems fixed.

Just be aware that everybody is working their b***cks off on trying to make this a faster, more efficient and more enjoyable site for you guys. Considering the amount of work the mods have had to do with the recent rumours of signings, I'd advise you all to buy them a beer next time you see them :)

Quick question. I do mark as read when I log on but usually they all jump back to unread after a couple of posts. I still logged on so not a new visit to the site.

Does it help if I keep re-marking as read?

Just to let you know more.

The database table that tracks your unread posts is now ~700MB. This is the second largest table in the site, with only the table that holds the content of posts being larger at ~900MB.
This 700MB table is searched/sorted everytime you refresh a page on the forum, by either reading a post, reading a forum, etc.

This is why it is important to click the link quite regularly.

The new £1000 server that was bought via all these adverts seems like is was a complete waste.

Infact ive noticed no change in speed or reliability at all.

I'm not sure of the old server, but in my educated, professional opinion, the current server is bitchin'.

Anyway, the forum may be a little quicker at the moment, the only delay that you will get is fetching the ads. You can tell this because in the bottom bar of your browser, it will say something along the lines of "Waiting for ads.servebrite.com", or something like that.

Once you see this change to bluemoon-mcfc, this is the actual rendering time of the forum. I'm counting it in milliseconds right now, with nearly 600 users on.

I must stress though, PLEASE keep clicking the link, it will make the forum continue with its speedy ways.
