Gerrard or Pirlo? Im on about as a whole.... Taking both careers in to account who would you say is the better player? I just started this thread because a few dipper fans were annoying me saying "pirlo isn't on Stevies level... He's lucky he was playing in a better team. Zidane said Gerrard's the best player in the world (*facepalm*)" I then replied with "so Pele says Neymars better than Messi, must be true then" and he did go quiet for a bit tbf..... I've always rated Pirlo and think he's a very classy player. Your opinion?

Pirlo easily

Two champions league wins and a world cup winner amongst a host of other trophies

if there's ever an argument about X English player versus X European player (of this generation) I think it's pretty foolish to ever pick the Englishman

Gerrard. No, seriously. Gerrard at his peak was beyond phenomenal. Despite his last few seasons when he has had a tonne of injuries, I'm still worried he will do something special against us.

Pirlo

Paul Scholes is a better than Gerrard.

Gerrard's problem is that he only learned how to play one way: "bombing forward". While it is great that he stayed loyal to Liverpool, staying there his whole career really prevented him from what he could have been.

You can make an argument that Rooney's career has stagnated too. He's happy collecting 250k a week in wages but his career hasn't advanced. When he threaten to leave Man U, he should have left.

Gerrard has/had the potential to be one of the best ever, however all the ability is no good without a football brain.

While he continues to run all over the pitch into areas he should not be for a central midfield creator he will always be a "could" have been, in my opinion. Its no wonder his legs go after 60/70 mins with all the running around he does, Gerrard needs to be smarter and become more effective more often in the right areas.

Look how Pirlo controls the game, creates and dictates. Gerrard does not do this, I believe he had the potential but maybe not the brain or coaching to make him the best.

Pirlo, easy.

On a free now, I'd take him to do the Vieira, Pizzaro thing in an instant.
I'm quivering in delight at the mere thought.

As the joint fav to be player of Euro 2012, I'm sure AP is delighted to come and warm our bench. Especially as he was the fulcrum in the Juve team that won the league unbeaten.

Gerrard is the better player. Unfortunate for him that he's spent the majority of his career (club & country) surrounded by pit ponies, whereas Pirlo has played with thoroughbreds.

Pirlo for me...I cant remember Gerrard running games against good national team opposition like Pirlo has done this Euros.

Its not even remotely close.

Pirlo is the grand master, the maestro, one of the best players of all time!

He's won it all, everything in world and club football (except the Euro;s)

He bosses games, dictates pace, wonderful vision, passing, range, technique, I want a poster up on my wall lol

I have to laugh at people saying Gerrard, seriously?! Pirlo is one of the best midfielders of all time, Stevie Me isn't fit to lace his boots.

Has to be Stevie G, he puts his head down and he runs a lot, it's the English way.

I genuinely believe the perfect footballer would be 2/3 Parker and 1/3 Messi.

Skill, intelligence and ability are all nice but nothing really makes a footballer more than running around a lot with your head down.

Co-sign

Pirlo. Players that dictate the pace of the game, dictate the tempo, they win tournaments for a team.
Players that play the box-to-box game and may score a screamer every 1/10, they win matches, but 1/10. I admire Gerrard's drive, but in today's game, less formations played require a box-to-box midfielder, he's failed to reinvigorate his game.

Difficult, Gerrard at his peak was about as close to a 'complete' midfielder as you could get.

On the other hand i've not seen many with the ability and vision to play consistently perfectly weighted passes as Pirlo, more impressively he seems to be able to do it equally with both feet.

Ther'll be plenty who dismiss Gerrard because its become the 'in' thing to hate on England, or they've barely watched Pirlo and have, in thier own mind, put him on a pedestal.

Different players, but i think i may just have to opt for Gerrard.

I genuinely don't believe that is your genuine opinion.

How ironic that a poster named "GStar" should comment on Gerrard. Fishy. :)
