Horrific, remember this like it was Yesterday, they are still not sure of how many people died but it is estimated a quarter of a million perished, such was the power of the surge they were simply washed away and never seen again
The whole region is still recovering 10 years on but hopefully with the new early warning systems in place it will never happen again

We set off really early in the morning as we were driving to the alps

Remember a video shot by I think it was a Swedish family on the beach, some of them were filming their family members being swept away, they never found their bodies

Watching the documentary now on ITV. Hard to believe it’s 20 years ago. Absolutely horrific. The stories are unimaginable.

Just watched some of this, will finish it tomorrow. Brings back some pretty horrible memories.

I was working in the Middle East at the time, but due to my job, was sent to assist in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka for 4 weeks. The scene on arrival was harrowing. The Sri Lankan people were amazing in the face of utter terror and devastation.
