Injuries 2025/26 | Kovacic could be ruled out for further 3-4 months (p37)

I don't think there's a magic formula for such a serious injury, nor an ideal time to return after surgery. Carvajal was just announced today that he will be out for the next six to ten weeks after a month out last September.

I don't think the City and Real Madrid staff are incompetent; that's how it is, and you have to deal with it.

I think he will get a few minutes v Swansea
possibly but the main point stands....lots of players dont come back the same after these type of injuries...

Lookat how Oscar Bobb is struggling to find that dynamic explosiveness he had prior to his injury and that was nowhere near as serious as the one Rodri has had. Lots of players have struggled to come back from this and while Id probably have Rodri at 90% of his power over 99% of other CDM we do need to start planning for the possibility.....We made a mistake with hanging onto KDB for one season too many as well and brought back an aged Gundo who could no longer hack it

Is big Erl in training? Doubt he’ll play in Swansea but hope he’s not injured from hitting the pole
I think he grazed one of his elephant testicles on the post.
It's enough to bring a tear to anyone's eyes.

This is where the physio with the cold sponge earns his corn.
Runs on with icy cold water in a leather bag and slaps it straight between big Erl's thighs.
He'd be up on his feet like a shot.

It can take athletes two full years to return to full readiness for elite performance after an ACL injury and the ligamenting of tendon surgery.

Along the way, injuries - either to the ligamenting tendon, the ACL in the other knee or secondary injuries elsewhere due to overcompensation of weight distribution in natural movements (eg limping) putting stress on certain parts of different muscles - are common.

Rodri only got the injury and had the surgery in September 2024. There could be 10 more months of him picking up injuries here or there.

Also, there is always the threat of rerupturing it and having to start from square one, plus the onset of osteoarthritis in the knee.

But apart from that he’ll be fine?

He might well be fine, but by the time he’ll mostly be clear of the reïnjury phase, he’ll be 31 and won’t be getting any better as a player by that age anyway.

We have been robbed of two seasons of the best player in the world in his prime because of fucking greed by football authorities!

The introduction of the Nations League that nobody asked for (everyone had actually asked for friendlies to be scrapped, not making them a league competition), the expansion of the World Cup, expansion of the Euros, expansion of the Champions League, expanded Club World Cup, an international World Cup played in the Winter in Qatar, the EFL Cup still existing (as much as I enjoyed winning it four times in a row, it’s not really needed in this day and age), stupid pre-season tours to America and the Far East which do next to nothing to get these elite athletes prepared for a season of elite performance, lack of recovery time at the end of seasons… and Rodri himself warned of all this being a problem just a week before his serious injury:

Makes me sick to think what we (and he) have been robbed of. He was at the top of the sport, the most commanding midfielder I’ve ever seen and we (and him) are going to have lost his 28-30 prime years in the sport.

Not that it reduces your point but Carvajal's knee was way worse than Rodri's I'm absolutely flabbergasted he has already got back on the pitch, he blew everything apart, ACL MCL and meniscus. Whoever the surgeon was he's fucking good at his job.

That’s a major blow if true.

Think that's his career here done unfortunately for him.

Fortunately if we setup the way we did Sunday, I think we have 4 or 5 that could play in that deeper role. Still reliant on Rodri getting back fit though.

Could mean bringing an extra body in in January but I'd be tempted to make that an attacker to help with creating and scoring.
