In the late 1980s, City fans started a craze of bringing inflatable objects to matches, primarily oversized bananas. One disputed explanation for the craze is that in a match against West Bromwich Albion chants from fans calling for the introduction of Imre Varadi as a substitute mutated into "Imre Banana". Terraces packed with inflatable-waving supporters became a frequent sight in the 1988–89 season as the craze spread to other clubs (inflatable fish were seen at Grimsby Town), with the phenomenon reaching a peak at City's match at Stoke City on 26 December 1988, a match declared by fanzines as a fancy dress party.[46]

Think your missing the point mate

Aye, I spied those Inter fans and had a chuckle. I love City's inflatable tradition. Fancy dress day is also great. We're having an inflatable day for the derby aren't we?
What a great intimidating atmosphere that will create,a cross between Play school and the Tweenies.

Guessing you'll be singing Munich songs instead then... Either that or praying for a return to the eighties when intimidating meant little kids being beaten up at Elland Road... Or, you were sadly born without a sense of humour.

Remember watching City around 86-88 at Fratton Park against Portsmouth, and the bloke next to us on the terrace had a 5ft banana with a City Shirt on with Varadi's name on it, Varadi started to warm up on the touchline and everyone started chanting "Imre, Imre Banana, Imre Banana, etc

i agree eddie. you want a nasty atmosphere in a derby. hows richy by the way mate?

does anyone reckon this is due to the city connection that the 2 clubs seem to have?
