Internet Explorer Problems

Recently updated my explorer (think its 8.0 not sure though not good with comps)

When i open the internet and then try and open a new tab the tab opens reading connecting..
and then the internet will not respond and have to close everything.

Any ideas how to stop this from happening and working as it should

Just get firefox, faster and it'll keep all your bookmarks and favourites.
