It seems to be becoming a more common occurance but Iran has seized a boat containing 5 Brits. Supposedly the boat was stopped by an Iranian War Vessel, but after seeing it was just innocent people onboard they left. However a quick change of heart and they returned to seize the boot, now from memory the last incident of this nature was a long drawn out affair.

With sanctions being imposed on Iran and the obvious unstabbility of the country lets just hope that they don't do anything rash.

do us all a favour, before you start a thread, read the article. they were in iranian waters therefore they were breaking their laws.

the same would happen here if the same said iranians were caught floating off the coast of blackpool.

Wow thanks for the advice Aphex, I never denied the boat hadn't drifted into Iranian waters (well disputed waters to be precise).

It has been 5 days since the sailors were captured but if you think our goverment would have done the same and threatened hard line measures then fair enough.

No it wouldn't. We'd put them in council houses, fly their families and friends over and pay them a grand a week each on benefits.

We should teach them a lesson and send a ship into Iranian waters that looked harmless enough but was armed to the teeth with missiles and loads of SAS. Then when their warships came near we could blast them into oblivion. They wouldn't be so quick to try it on again.

The world was a safer place when super-powers knew exactly how to deal with fuzzy-wuzzy upstarts.

By the way - good to meet you on Saturday.

you cant slag of the very core of my beliefs and then say that.

good to meet you too! was a great night.. until the end and it got a bit patchy.. :)

Sounds like iran wanting another bargaining tool to me.

This is an outrage. The dodgy Iranian government will use this as some political tool no doubt. You try and have sympathy for these countries, bend over backwards to pander to there every belief and twisted ideas yet they still act like the tyrant yobs they are.The whole country is run by the Republican Guard and it will be someone from there who dictates what happens to these poor blokes.Yes they shouldn`t have strayed into Iranian waters(disputed) but a civilised country would simply usher them on there way or like someone has said give them a council house and a grand aweek. Not threaten them with severe punishment FFS!!
