what i am saying is if people need to be critical do it in a reasoned fashion, and always remember to read what you have typed before you hit the send button.

You've more chance of pissing pineapples.
You've never done that before?

To be fair at the time he was playing average for us, but there was an OTT response from people on here which was unfair, he wasn't playing amazing and he wasn't rubbish, some pople said some nasty things and his performances didn't warrant that.

I will admit, one time i questioned myself was he good enough to be in our team and he had a few shockers at the start of the season and i thought maybe he would be sold and i wouldn't mind to much, but i would never make comments like '' i'll drive him to sunderland '', to be fair to the lad he come through it, and he had an amazing 08/09 season, he loves the club, i personally think he wants to be here for life and i think he meant it when he said it, it's all history now and he's a top manchester city player.

He is the first person at the club who would give you 5 minutes of their time.

I could've sworn we beat Portsmouth 6-0... then again I wasn't playing that day so what do I know ;)

Good old Stevie!

Just shows some of the Boo Boys on here, yes you can effect players, in a negative way, I well remember the abuse some gave Ireland on here!

Bollocks Duc.

So if a player is not performing consistently he is exempt from criticism? I'm not having that.
I wasn't one of those dishing it out because I wasn't a member here back then, but to my fellow blues, I voiced my opinions, and said Stevie wasn't doing enough. Because he WASN'T.
I'm not eating humble pie because I saw what a talent he was, and is proving to be.
Maybe if Stevie hadn't read the criticisms he wouldn't have knuckled down.
Superb player for us now, and I am happy you are doing so well Stevie.
Could well become a legend for us, hope you do young man!

I don't think anyone has a problem with fair criticism but some of the shit ireland got on here was untrue. There's a nasty streak amongst some City fans to find a whipping boy and victimise him, and not all people have the strength to overcome it like Ireland. It absolutely broke Samaras. 21 year old who had a bad dip in form and never recovered at City because he got no support. HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME!!!!

I remember something quite similar back in the 70s with Joe Corrigan every week he came out and played even though the crowd was on his back yet he turned out to be an England goalie. Stevie I think it is unique to City players for some reason they have to take stick from the fans (in my opinion wrongly) your not the first and you won't be the last. If the stick you received has made you a better person and player this certainly reflects in your game if it did go part way to you being the player you are I think it was worth it.

Would Stevie Ireland be the player he is today if he had been left to progress at his own rate or did the stick make him pull his socks up and fast track him to prove he was the better player than the hecklers thought he was.
However you did it Steve you are now reaping the rewards for all your hard work and dedication, personally I am happy you stayed with City I can see in the future you will be a City legend and one day put into City's Hall of Fame alongside the great Colin Bell.

Spot on. Not playing consistently is one thing, if you listened to some of the morons on here you'd think he was the worst and laziest player on the planet. Mainly just sheep needing to be part of a herd.

There is a light said:
Ireland has always been an outstandingly gifted player. Pearce was just too boring and inept to fit him into his team and Eriksson was never going to drop Elano. When he was slotted in on the left or right of midfield his vision and ability was wasted and you could see he was uncomfortable playing there.

If you ask me his inability to find any consistency before last season was more of an indictment of the previous managers than Ireland himself. Saying that, I remember most Blues being disgusted at the thought of him being sold to Sunderland so it isn't true that all fans wanted him out of the club.

Here's a Clown who knows sod all...
