Irish travellers rounded up in Manchester.

In the words of grandmother and protester, Noreen Ward,(32) “We are all human. We come into this world the same way, and we leave it the same way
(excrement and rubbish all over public parks and lawn mowers and power tools robbed from local sheds) We all need to respect one another.”

Irish citizenship when you are born abroad

If either of your parents was born in Ireland and was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, you are automatically an Irish citizen by birth.

If the parent through whom you are entitled to Irish citizenship was deceased at the time of your birth, but would have been an Irish citizen if alive at that time, you are an Irish citizen.
That's how I got my Irish passport. All I had to do was provide the birth certificate of a parent (I have both of them), to prove that they were Irish. No drama, no fuss.

Used to be that your Irish Granny made you qualify too. Is that not the case now? I was going to apply.

(got a caravan all lined up and a transit van with motorway maintenance on the back and a tow bar. No number plates)

Is that something similar with UK.
Neighbours kids are UK citizens due to their grandparents.
Used their citizenship to go and work in Canada.

I think the Irish granny thing is a bit of a myth, mainly because the irish have emigrated to almost everywhere.

If you are born abroad, you are entitled to Irish citizenship if your parent was born in Ireland. If your grandparents were born in Ireland, you may also be able to claim citizenship through the Foreign Births Register.

Eligibility

You are automatically an Irish citizen if one of your parents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, and was born on the island of Ireland. You don't need to apply to become an Irish citizen in this case.
If you were born outside of Ireland, you can become an Irish citizen if:
  1. One of your grandparents was born in Ireland, or;
  2. One of your parents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, even though they were not born in Ireland.

I know that.

What I am asking is this the same for the UK?

I.e. A person born in France can claim UK citizenship if a grandparent was born in UK.
