Is doing this to a dog considered cruel ?

I got myself these two baby Yorkies a couple of weeks back.

Harlee the lad is on the left and Star the little girl is on the right. As you can see from the picture Harlee ears stand up and Stars ears are a bit floppy. Now myself and the Mrs have decide we would like for the dogs to have the traditional full Yorkie coat. As seen below, which by the way is Stars dad Durrer's Diesel Power.

Anyway from what I've been reading due to the length of the coat and Stars ears being floppy. It could cause some health problems as in possible recurring ear infections. Now there is supposedly a way you can help the ears stand up by taping them which would avoid these problems, as seen in the video below.

Now I'm considering doing the first part of the video just to get the ears straight. Not the second part were the women puts extra tape on to try and influence the position of the ears i just want to help them stand up.

Now I'm all for this just for the health reasons. As far as I'm concerned it just like a human wearing braces to sort their teeth out for health reasons. The Mrs on the other hand thinks it might be cruel and doesn't want to get in to trouble for being cruel to her babies (yes she is that naive).

Anyway am i an evil **** for wanting to put tape on my puppies ears ?

Or is my Mrs just a proper soft arse ?
 
Haha yeah, only us cool kids are around now.

They are lovely doggies, how fast does the hair on them grow ?
Will you forever be trimming it or is it not to much hassle ?

I think the hair grows as fast as a humans would it just depends on the dog. As for trimming them I'll just do the eyes ears and arse (prone to shitty arses) and I'll get my Auntie to cut them as she professionally cuts dog hair.

You see the one on the left, Harlee, he's a ****, actually hes a hyperactive shit eating lunatic.

He's brilliant though at training as he's so fucking food obsessive. I've already got him pissing and shiting on a training mat by the back door (mostly) as he can't go outside yet. He'll also sits and give you his paw on command and plays fetch already and he's only 10 or 11 weeks old.

Ha ha, the poor dogs all the other dogs will take the piss they can be very cruel you know my Mrs once got our Staffi bitch a pink collar she refused the wear it
 
Not cruel at all, the dog wont know the difference, they are very hardy animals.

And to be fair dogs get far worst treatment.
 
The tape won't hold their ears back for long.

Superglue or a nail-gun would be a better option.

I can't do it mate she'd kill me.

I'm already in her bad books for wanting to sell her used knickers on ebay.
