that goes crazy when the other team gets a corner or freekick, and all our players go into the penulty area. ffs we need to have at least 3 of our players out of the area, in space ready to counter attack [ bellers, tevez and johnson/sweep ] and another 1/2 on the edge of area to stop/win the ball when it does come out of the area. in the secound half, everton had a freekick on the left hand side, and we had 8 players in the area and everton had 3, but they had 4 just out side of the area, just in case a ball came just out[ which it did]. we need to get some players out in to midfield to break as fast as we can. RANT OVER FOR NOW

I don't understand this tactic at all. When we played Stoke last season at home, I think, and Delap was in long throw mode, we had two wingers stationed on the halfway line which drew two or three of their defenders back. I think we should play a minimal game. Each time we did break, we had to wait, hold up the ball, and then chance gone.

But the biggest rant for me is the lack of challenge as soon as the opposition have the ball, regardless of where the play is. Every team going through the trap door are down yer throat, harrying, harassing, in yer face for the ninety minutes. It seems that City are desperate for a team to come to CoMS which lets you play a slow game and then stuff's 'em with Beller's and Tevez's pace. They aren't going to do that! They are not going to lie down and die so we can stroll a couple of goals in.

I could not agree more, in fact it makes even less sense to pack the box when we have a goalie that is less than commanding in his area. Leaving 2 or 3 fast players out of the box would mean the opposition would need to have players out to mark them, meaning less congestion in the area.

you dont understand my tactics or city players tactics

Totally agree.......and whats more we don't have a system going forward at all! we seem to make it up as we go along. We are desperate for a creative midfielder who can give us options as we break out of defense.

A couple of us were discussing this whilst sat there at the match last night. Hughes always had it so that we had at least 2 players on or around the half way line, as already stated on some posts in this thread - that draws players out of the box. I think it works to our detriment having so many players in the box. Gives Shay no chance on a lot of crosses.

Set plays have been our downfall, and crosses. See all derby matches this season! :( Guess its how it is though. We have to be more decisive as a defensive unit from crosses and set pieces. Lescott is brilliant at getting the ball out of the box from them, surprise surprise he wasn't playing last night and they scored from a training ground free kick. That's my take on it.
