Is Manchester a tough place to live in?

Not a shithole but everyone going about the weather..just making the point that sun every day is not always that nice !!!
It’s good to have a happy medium. I’m in Manchester now but spent 3 years living somewhere where sunny days meant average shade temperatures of 35c and night time lows of 25c, and the only time it was lower was when it was pissing down and you were dodging lightning strikes

I currently live about 2 miles from that Seacroft estate. Quite nice here compared to other areas I've lived over this way, but fuck me that Seacroft is grim. Got its own modern shopping centre equipped with any shop you could need and its own bus station. 70s high rise blocks surround it in each direction. Full of Roma and serial unemployed in that Tesco, about 3 teeth shared between all the locals. Swear someone gets stabbed on that site each week too.

Everywhere has its bad areas, but it's easier to find a nicer area around Manchester than this side of the Pennines in my experience. I find Manchester city centre quite grubby though, despite the redevelopment over the last 10+ years.
If they sort out the litter situation in Mcr town centre it would make a big difference, like you said everywhere has it’s bad areas.

One way to look at it is, what does Manchester have to offer that other major European cities don’t have? There’s nothing ‘great’ about the place.

In fact, I’d say one of the best things about Manchester is it’s proximity to other places. There’s plenty to do within a couple of hours drive of the place.

I couldn't live there. Then again there's a lot of people that couldn't live where I live due to the long and cold winters.
Right now it's a heatwave and we had ice outside on the morning of the champions league final.
Manchester is always my first choice when it comes to travel but I can see why it's not everybody's.

How do we define what a "rough" city is? The chance of getting attacked if you walk through the streets alone? how often you get burgled? Drug gangs?

For all of you weather moaners..lived in Townsville Australia. Missed the seasons, missed the pubs, missed my family and missed the banter. Went there and was down the beach every day for two weeks and got bored. Then it gets to 40c in summer, the humidity, the tropical rains in spring and then 3 months of nice weather in winter. Its so hot you run between the aircon in your car and the aircon in shopping malls. Then you get the skin cancer, the sea where you cant swim because of stingers and sharks, the pubs full of nobs that are far worse than Manchester believe me. The girls all have STDs. Scenery great and scuba diving great. England is home and a bloody great country, north or south.

well said!

I moved to Sale last year but still not happy, too much traffic and too many idiots.
Want to move to the lakes 1 day.
Yeah I live in sale fuckin nightmare with traffic does my head in. I would love to live in Cornwall.

Not sure if it was a ban or left of his own accord, he was picking fights with everyone by the end and had a strange habit of being oddly specific with his insults. Kept calling out people for being divorcees for example.

yes I was nice to the oddball fucker as well!! Probably had more divorces than he has had shags.
