Is Manchester a tough place to live in?

I enjoyed my 26 years in Manchester. A lot of friends moved to uni elsewhere but I don't regret having stayed in Manchester at all as I think it's a great city for leisure. I only moved to Ireland as my Mrs wanted to come home. I would probably have left for elsewhere in the end but not because I don't like it - simply because I think its good to see and experience other places too. I always come home when I can.

Went to town today for the first time in 18 months and I'm afraid to say that piccadilly end is a fuckin shit hole, fuckin stinks, filthy dirty, the farther you get towards deansgate the less smelly but that's about as good as it gets, what the fuck has become of town

Piccadilly has been a shithole for 40 years, made worse by the Berlin wall that was built 20 years ago and thankfully demolished recently. Needs a shitload more spending on it to make it a pleasant place to be.

Drove down Great Ancoats street last Saturday night. First time I've been that way for about 5 years. I was could not believe how it has changed. The place was heaving. And as for driving down the A6 through Longsight and Levenshulme.....fuck me...what happened !

I think our opinions have been heavily influenced because of the numerous shitbags we have constantly encountered in our working lives.....and while i'm not so naive as to think the grass isnt always greener,we do seem to have more than our fair share.Then,like you say,its dirty....people dont give a shite,just selfish,obnoxious,morons everywhere.

Its sad but i find myself wishing the years away until i can retire.

Manchester is an industrial city and a city of learning. It was born out of the white heat of the industrial revolution than not even the rain could temper. It's light comes not from the dull strips of sky glimpsed between soot stained buildings, but bursts forth from it's dingy offices and garretts - from which have emerged many of the worlds greatest inventions and ground braking scientific theories. Theories that have enlightend the whole world. It is a human hive whose purpose is industry and progress, by learning and effort - concilio et labore.

Stockholm is a green city spread over fourteen islands whose purpose is to let young attractive Scandinavans saunter throught the wide summer streets in the bare minimum of clothing.

lol Manchester is still fucking horrible but I love it. Streets are never cleaned, I walk past piss, shit and vomit on a daily basis. Homeless doing drugs in the streets. My neighbour was burgled last week, fourth robbery in my (fairly nice) city centre apartment building in the space of a few months. Knobheads everywhere. Don't even get me started on Trafford.
