I can't think of many successful teams recently that lacked pace?

Surely it depends on the situation. Don't need pace to win a header from a corner.

Yes it's essential that's why we are not good enough in Europe or even against defensive teams in our own league

I don't think Chelsea are blisteringly quick just very effective. You can be really quick like Lennon and Walcott but lack a brain

Bayern seem very pacey on the break, while Barca a few years ago were just excellent at moving the ball. To me pace is just a bonus if you have the brain to go with it

Need pace to win the ball back quickly. Often it's won in dangerous area which may prove a deciding factor.
It helps on counters. It... Yes, pace is required in modern football.

Yes pace is required in a side. But look at John Terry - never had any pace to him but probably the best defender I've seen in my lifetime. Same for some strikers, Shearer, Sheringham, Van Nistlerooy and today you have target men like Dzeko, Drogba and Carrol :) who are very effective without pace.

It can matter on the pitch yes but in Modern Football you can be the slowest team in the league...

if you have the right sponsors involved with your club, the right delegates at FIFA/UEFA/FA also involved with your club - you'll succeed.

hazard, willian, salah, Remy and Ramires all probably faster than our entire squad bar Navas.

I do not think it is pure pace. Look at Müller - he is not slow but he for sure is not one of the pacy guy at least not on the first meters. But - on a counter he runs extra ways and always is in with it. He sniffs the situations and has a great reaction.

Pace is not something that only includes physicality but is about fast reaction, fast passing, being able not just to think to the next pass but maybe two passes ahead and moving for it, knowing about situations and reacting faster than others do.
