I'm no propaganda expert so could someone enlighten me to what benefits they would get from doing something like this and how they could possibly 'spin' it to get more support? Or is it just a case of ruling by fear and if they set fire to children(there's a couple of words I'd never thought I'd type) then they can/will do anything

I don't know how to provide links but there are reports that this photo was from a protest against forces loyal to the Syrian President. The children were dressed in orange to depict the victims of IS.

The kids look a bit too relaxed for me. The one in the corner is casually leaning on the bars, and the little one knelt down looks bored. I know they're young, but I'd imagine there'd be more tears and histrionics if they had been forced into the cage and threatened with being torched.

Its not genuine. Well, it is, but its a staged photo as a protest against ISIS and violence against kids. Not an excecution

That's what they want you to think, I am not going all conspiracy here because it's a well known tactic even employed by the drug cartels in Mexico (go to the excellent Borderland Beat Blog) who learnt it off CIA trained South American militias (made redundant by the end cold war) but throughout history it has been practised, and it is to sow terror in the mind of your enemy in Mexico they hang bodies off motorway bridges or leave severed heads in public places, and film gruesome executions all for the same effect
