I wonder if a lot of people would have different opinions if we were out of the FA Cup?
It all depends on whether you are happy for us to be losers the rest of our life or winners. If the answer is winners then we need to be moving in the same circles as the game's elite. If we want the big players then it's a must.
It's defeatist talk to say it doesn't matter. If we don't attain that level we will never win the Premier League or Champions League, and considering the level of financial input, then it will be failure on a level that we've never managed before, even with our embarrassing track record.
Success and failure is relative. For Birmingham, a League Cup once a lifetime is success. If we are saying similar, which effectively some posters are then it's an insult to the greats who have played in a sky blue shirt over the years. An insult to the likes of Mercer and Allison.
This club is better than (or should be better than) aiming for a cup every once a while. Now lets start talking like a club with ambition instead of getting your excuses in because you don't think we'll make the four. Stop trying to console yourself that it doesn't matter, because it does. For the future of this club, Champions League football is a neccessity on a regular basis over the next five years.
