In the very small town i live in, poynton, the big Cof E church seems to have an average age of over 70 with one or two younger attendees.
It cant last. Its poorly attended and the vicar is a judgy **** who wont marry divorcees etc (i know from personal experience what a judgemental fucker he is).

Contrast that with the methodist church not 50 yards away.
Sunday mornings its packed, possibly 300 people of literally all ages and creeds, ive walked past and the place is rocking.
Ive done work for them and they are just a lovely welcoming bunch.
Im as atheist as they come but i do get the attraction of community spirit at that church if thats what youre looking for and its not overly religious

So going off that little micro example, if the church can redefine its self it may have more a community future than a religious one

It always amazes me that American has so many religious fucking nutters. In fact it amazes me that they have so many religious people in such a modern country. I can sort of understand it in a poor country like Afghanistan were the people are simple folk.

I have problems with the one I have, but with 70 to go at you might find a good looking one, one with a lovely nature and one who could cook. The rest could start grafting and earn me some money in heaven.

I was baptized a Catholic but my Gran fell out with the whole lot of them when I was young. She still sent me to a Church school though.
However, I will say this; the hymns at school, the sheer mystery and pageantry of religious holidays and the feeling that there IS something greater out there is something that has stayed with me. In a good way.

I don't expect anyone to agree with me, just saying that my memories of such things are positive. Probably because it gave me a sense of belonging during a fractured early start to life.

As I've got older I have seen religion and faith differently; how it can be controlling etc etc. Yet I value immensely those early years

I'm not religious, but I lean very spiritual as I don't think any religion in isolation, is worth the paper it's written on by men.

With that said (and it's been quite a while), I would say visiting a Black church (on the whole) is a very different experience than a White church (I've been to a few) and one can feel the 180 difference in the power of belief.

If I was a total believer in man's interpretation of the Biblical word, sure, a Black church would be my place of visitation, personally.

Most people understand the spiritual belief just not the organised religion clap-trap.

But as you say, the black gospel churches look a whole lot more fun than the crusty musky solemn ones the CofE and Catholics have going for them.
