.. and I'll put money on the new kit being launched about 5 minutes after Pep's first Press Conference. Well, it should if our Marketing Department have got anything about them.
New Manager, New Badge, New Kit all on the same day.
You're probably right about the badge and Pep's first press conference, it would be a good way to launch the badge. I've got a feeling though that they're going to do one of those Pravda style interviews on the club website, and then the first time he faces the media will be in China.
The strategy will obviously be to get all of the UK press out to China to talk about the "wonderful" work we are doing out there and probably launch a new Chinese club out there. But I fear it will probably blow up in our face. I'd imagine most newspapers couldn't justify sending their staff of sports writers out to China to write about a pre season tour, especially in a summer that has a Euro's in France and an Olympics in Brazil.
The smart move would be to have press conference in Manchester the week after the CL final, before the Euro's start. The world's media would attend, it would be headline news around the world in a week where there was nothing else of note going on in the sporting world. We'd go a long way to getting the media back onside.
But unfortunately I expect the club to follow their flawed strategy of trying to manipulate the press in to only reporting positive stories and trying to control them. It's not worked at all up to now, and I don't expect it to start working in the summer.
Regarding the badge, surely the work to start replacing the old badge must already be underway? There must be hundreds of examples of the turkey badge around the stadium and CFA. On doors, seats, signs, in the stadium, mats etc. It will be a huge operation to change all of those, I'm sure all of the signage has already been ordered and made and is ready to fit. I would assume changes will start to be made after Sunday and try and get them in place before the Stone Roses concerts in the middle of June.
