Just a quick question for you Off Topicers.

Is there a minimum capacity for grounds to enter the EPL?

If there is what is it?

I ask because there is an outside chance that Blackpool may well be there soon and they have a current capacity of only 13,500 at Bloomfield Road.

There's no specific mention on the rules relating to capacity, Just that it shall be all seater, most of which should be covered, and bits about grounds sharing and minimum media facilities etc.

Must admit I was thinking the same yesterday, Bloomfield only has three sides doesn't it. Despite what I've read, I'd be surprised if they would be allowed to use their ground, they'd probably have to go grovelling to North End, but I can't see them getting much change out of them.

Once they've finished developing it I think it will be 16000 there abouts. A bit shit but I think the rules just state no standing mate.

They could use Boltons ground. Its only 25 mins away, and the funny thing is, they would probably get more than when Bolton play at home!!!

The only specific 2 rules I can think of as well is the covered aspect to the 'majority' of the seating and that of course they are all seater.

Why they wouldnt be allowed to use Bloomfield Road if those 2 rules are met is beyond me.

Think of Fratton Park at below 21k.

Not much different.

I hope not, there used to be a minimum capacity to get in the SPL, it did 2 things 1) prevented clubs that deserved it being promoted and 2) forced some clubs take out large loans, that they could'nt afford, to enlarge a stand which they didn't need, just so they could get promoted.

I think it might be 10,000.

The reason I suspect this is because Morecambe's new stadium, for next season, The Globe Arena, will hold just over 6,000 which is obviously not a lot. The point being that the question of minimum capacities was raised when the possibility was suggested of being promoted higher than League 1 and I believe that the minimum for the Championship is 10,000, although if a club were promoted there would be a period of grace to allow for the improvements.

I'm not sure if it's higher for the Premier League, but I think that the PL and Championship might be the same, apart from having to be all seater of course.

For a UEFA 4 star grading, it has to be at least 30,000

dont see why really. blackpool only get around 8k now, so realisticly would get a max of 11 at big pl games, leaving an ample 2.5k away section. don see why your ground has to be so big, whats the point if your not gonna fill it anyway?

There appears to be NO minimum requirement for capacity but a rather long list of requirements and specifications that would, perhaps cause problems for a club with Blackpool's level of income pre-EPL promotion.

Read it here in section I -

Its a very interesting document to be honest.

Some weird stuff in there.
