Is there any danger of us losing our 4th CL spot ?

It would be funny as fuck if our poor European performances lost the 4th place to the detriment of Spurs/Arsenal/Liverpool.

Why Liverpool?

They aren't getting a Champions League place again in my lifetime.

We're fourth in the season coefficients at the moment which, if it persisted over the next few years, could mean we'd lose a spot. But there is no imminent danger. Will we lose a Europa spot if Germany overtakes us?

no, you see it in that list: 7 clubs for the first three nations
I'm not sure that is correct, because no country has 5 clubs in the CL. According to wkipedia, the top 3 have 4 places in CL, and then 3 EL, the next 3 have 3 and 3, and then 7-9 have 2 CL and 4 EL, and then 10-15 have 2 and 3 places respectively.

Back to my original question, the top 6 are

1 (2) Spain 85.739
2 (1) England 79.392
3 (3) Germany 76.757
4 (4) Italy 62.814
5 (6) France 58.666
6 (5) Portugal 57.168

If I read the table correct we were top last year, but are already 6 points behind Spain, that's in less than a year, so things can change reasonably quickly ? Hence my question about Italy catching us in the next couple of years if we continue to fail in it, and they maybe win it (though I can't see that happening at this stage, but I didn't see chelsea winning it at this stage last year either) and we potentially lose 2 of our better seasons in the next 3. Italy have already gained on us this year and should gain more, and its possible France will gain on us also, though 17 and 21 points is still a good way off admittedly.

Like stony says it would be funny if City AND United's poor performances actually contribute to someone else missing out on this pot of gold altogether.

Do you even get the point of the table? No one said there were 5 clubs in the CL....as you said it the top 3 countries have 4CL and 3EL, so even if germany did overtake us we wouldn't lose our 3rd EL spot. The ?/7 denotes how many are left in total in the CL AND the EL.

Secondly, the reason why spain are already 6 points ahead of us after being behind last year is because every year the point from 6 seasons ago is dropped. I'm guessing in 07/08, which isn't taken into account this season, we had lots more points than them, hence why we were ahead in the total from 07/08-11/12. Now that we're only looking at 08/09-12/13 we're behind them. Using that very argument it's unlikely we will go behind Italy anytime soon, 3 seasons ago we finished a massive 7 points above them, and 2 seasons ago 4 points above them. These will not be discarded for another 2 years so its difficult to see them catching up within that time. If we continuously under perform throughout the next couple of years and they continuously do better, then yes they may overtake us then.

You planning on offing yourself soon then?

No I'm clearly an idiot, thanks for pointing this out. Do you ?

Its not clear from the post, and I don't know where the graphic is from so I can't check, and I've no idea when it was published (obviously not since yesterday).

England currently has 4 out of 7 still in europe, (Spain the same not 5) Arsenal (virtually out), Chelsea, Spurs, and Newcastle. At best after the current rounds we will have 3/7 in europe. Italy could have 4, Spain 4, Germany 4, and France 2.
