The tv companies seem to think anything vaguely northern will do. The same old faces turn up in settings in different parts of the North always speaking in the same accent.

One of the Gallagher kids on Shameless had a strong Lancashire accent. What’s that all about? Full family from Gorton and one sounds like he’s from Rochdale. It just didn’t work!

I thought this thread was about White Lines on Netflix. Some seriously dodgy accents on show. (As well as dodgy acting, writing.....).

Could not make out whether the female leads accent was scouse or Manc, it seemed to veer from one to the other mid sentence. Had the same issue with the drug dealing Manc DJ.

I thought Shameless got it ok a lot with lead character and director being a blue from South Msnchrster but Corrie seemed to have several families where parents and kids all had vastly different accents.

Within in a minute of chatting to a new Wales fan in some random country, I tend to get “you don’t sound Welsh, butt” and a wry smile. They’re right. I don’t.

I like Brian Kidd’s Manchester accent. It’s warm. The boxer Terry Flanagan has got a very strong Manc accent, IMO. A friend of mine from Gorton has too. It’s the strongest I’ve heard.
