Islands just off Athens

Booked flights to and from Athens that covers the European Cup final should we get there. Plan is to just have a holiday for 2 weeks if we don't and if we do, we'll still be having a holiday, just after we've lifted the European Cup in Istanbul.

Have any bluemooners been to any of the islands? Hydra, Poros, Kythnos or Agistri all look nice.

We're a couple in our early 40's. Not after nightlife, more a relaxing place with nice sand beaches and a decent amount of restaurants. We also enjoy rambling/hiking so somewhere we can do that would be preferable.

Crete also doesn't seem too far away so any recommendations for where to go in Crete might also be useful.

Cheers blues
I’ve booked Crete for next May and chosen Stalida/Stalis.
Apparently quieter than some places but plenty of restaurants and situated on the bay.
It’s about 20 miles from Heraklion.

these islands are very popular with Doggers

Mentioned this thread to Mrs DD and she laughed and nodded in agreement about the beach being dirty
We sunbathed at a rocky cove and that was no better as it was absolutely littered with fag ends
I can only presume it was the same cove I found?
It wasn’t much, you had to enter the water from the rocks, but it was a helluvar lot nicer than the ‘beach’

We'd moved house that year and just looked for a cheap holiday and it cost £199 each
A studio apartment in a field about 15 minutes walk to whatever town it was
I remember the beach being really narrow and not very nice, so we walked a bit further and settled on the rocks

This sounds very deja vu…

Did the apartment have a rooftop to sunbathe and quite a good view?

Nope, it was just a very dark place in a field
When the coach dropped us and another couple off, the driver just pointed and then drove off
We were stood on the side of a road, the crickets chirping away with no idea what we were doing
Me and the other lad then walked up this narrow grassy path and found a Greek fella tending his allotment
We asked him if there were holiday apartments nearby and he said " some people ask me the same question two weeks ago "
When we left, the instructions were , leave your cases at the bottom of the path and a van will collect them and put them on the ferry
So we did this, and good to their word, the bags were collected
We get to Athens Airport " have you left your bags unattended?"
Us "no"
