They might improve us this season, not sure about that, Palmer apart, though. None of which is the point we arent looking for players that improve us this season. We want players to get us back to the level of treble winners and none of them again maybe Palmer part would get into the treble team.

I think there is a definite point there with Gvardiol, should Cambiaso not be for that role.It feels like with all these defensive signings that Pep is looking at possibly using one of the defenders are cover for rodri. I doubt its either of the two new centre halves as thye wont have the experience or ability to play it (yet)...plus there have been no other links to a CDM
The Italian left back is interesting...we no doubt need a left back as Gvardiol is really a centre half....i do wonder if Pep is thinking of using Gvardiol however as the DM as he has the ability on the ball, a good passing range and even has an eye for goal as we have seen ...he is also capable of incisive passing... We also know Pep has played Akanji there but I think he could end up at right back but again with the two new centre halves it could be he could be in consideration for the CDM role at some point - especially if we can get Dias fit and keep him fit...
The ideal Rodri replacement from within the squad is John Stones but it looks like he is finished....he just cant stay fit long enough to be considered a reliable part of the squad or team....real shame as he would be perfect in that role

yes as i think someone else posted he had played there....but bringing in a new player to the league and asking him to play such a pivotal role in a pep team when he seems to be more of a fullback would be a very bold move....I suspect if he is earmarked as a number 6 it will be as back up next season and defensive cover/1st choice this seasonI think there is a definite point there with Gvardiol, should Cambiaso not be for that role.
If Cambiaso is a real target then I could definitely see us play 3 centre backs and Cambiosa as left wing back.One of the centre backs stepping in to DM in possession, Haaland Marmoush front 2 .
