Agree. Said it weeks back. If city were working on a deal it would have leaked out. Bobby the club but by the selling club or an agent. Truth is city have no idea who to target imo

Lets hope we don't get to the end of the window and come to a conclusion again where 'we couldn't sign who we wanted so sticking with what we have' then the old naming our midfielders 'Gundo, Nunes, Kova, O'Reilly.. etc etc if that is the outcome, where we have a tough run of games vs very athletic good midfielders, it'll be hard to see us in top 4. We get ran through by near enough any midfield, might be one of the worst teams in defensive transition in the league.

We need someone who Like Rodri knows where to stand/ move when the other team are in possession, simply tick the ball along and not half heartedly chase after it like a headless fuckin chicken. It’s that simple. Rodri isn’t particularly fast yet you never see him chase after anyone nor is he sliding about (not that the current midfielder do that) because his positioning is so fucking good he breaks up angles for the other team.

We’re constantly getting run through in midfield as no fucker has the intelligence of where to be when we’re defending. Look at Barry for example nowhere near rodri standard but the bloke did 100 metres in 30 seconds yet his positioning and his sense and reading of the game was unbelievable.
 
I missed the match tonight at my daughter’s play and very happy that I did. Tonight’s tesult is not a surprise because we’ve seen it repeatedly this season because we don’t have a midfield. We’ve got results early this season but we were struggling through until we lost at Bournemouth then the dam broke.

At the moment we have 2 excellent defenders who can’t stay fit and without them we’re a shambles. If either Ake or Dias play we can play we just about get by but they were both missing second half tonight. It appears that as a result of our issues in defence we’ve brought in 2 young defenders. It is going to be hard for them when if they hit the ground running. Unfortunately adding new players to our defence is treating the symptoms not the disease.

The problem is and remains our midfield. Kovacic is not and never will be a 6, he can play as at 8 beside a 6 but his positional sense isn’t good enough. Gundogan sadly is done, he may have had a role as a closer but there’s no midfield behind him. Nunes was a terrible signing, he’s a coward and although he can carry well he’s a poor tackler and can’t use his size properly. Lewis may have a chance but needs to be taken out of the firing line for a while. Bernardo looks like a player who wishes he left last summer. He’s a shadow of the player that has been incredible for us.

It’s clear Pep doesn’t trust O’Reilly or Wright so we simply have to go to the market. Ipswich unfortunately was a false dawn. They switched system to a 3-4-3 and were obviously uncomfortable with it and made it easy for us. We have to assume no one else will do us favours like that.

It is a simple for me that if we don’t add a competent defensive midfielder in January then we are likely to miss out on champions league football next season and all the consequences that go with that. Everyone knows January is a difficult and expensive time to buy but desperate times call for desperate measures. It didn’t have to be this way but unfortunately when everyone, and I mean everyone, knew we desperately needed cover for Rodri (including Rodri himself) we failed to act and so and at the very least it has cost us the league this season.

It’s important to get the right midfielders. It’s easy to get this wrong and we make matters worse….thats the United model.

Douglas Luiz will not make any difference for example. Juve want rid and anyone that saw him last night must see he is dire.

We have to get the right players in not just anyone. It’s not easy but we cannot panic.

There just has to be players that have been available mate? There’s just way they have all turned us down?!
 
Throw all the Cambiaso money (and a little more) at Brighton for Baleba. He would already be so expensive that I don’t think the January premium could be that much. Alternatively go for Lamine Camara
 
we might spend another week on Jumah Bah legal issues who wont feature at City maybe ever if he is a CFG singing and we flip him for profit later on

Completely disagree. Luiz is a massive upgrade on what we are at the moment.

Villas engine last season and POTY, just because he hasn't settled in Italy (and been injured despite playing 53 games last season) means nothing - look at villas comparative drop off without him...


We have ZERO midfield, we have ZERO legs and we have players with incredible quality who are all unfortunately 2 years too old all at the same time.

Without even a stop gap midfield replacement, we are finishing 7/8th especially looking at our next 6 games. That's the reality, we need 2 midfielders with energy, Luiz is easily good enough to be one.

You would think so..maybe Stiller.

It makes me laugh when so many see the solution is just to get anybody that is physical and has legs. We have to keep the ball. We need intelligent players that see trouble coming and keep the ball under pressure. We had them but they are finished. We must replace like with like not play a different way.

There’s time yet but we might have to wait until the next window unfortunately.
